Wheeler as trade bait (for Price?)

07:21 AM ET 10.02 | Terry Collins is coming back, but the Mets may entertain the idea of moving a prized prospect. [They] are nuts if they believe they can contend next year without Matt Harvey, unless they acquire a top-of-the-rotation starter to replace him. And whether the big offseason trade that the Mets seek ultimately yields a big arm or bat, Sandy Alderson would do well to listen to those in the organization who believe that dangling Zack Wheeler is a good idea. Wait. The Mets need an ace, but they should consider moving Wheeler? Isn't that a contradiction? Hear us out: Wheeler is an extremely talented pitcher, a gem that you don't trade unless you receive a strong return. Like, say (and this is just me acting like a talk radio caller for a moment, not reporting on actual talks) David Price from Tampa Bay.

....price auditioned for the rangers this week....and will be going there for sure during off season....why would anyone choose the horrible mets.....

Mr. Writer you are nuts if you think the Mets can contend next year even if they keep Wheeler.

Jesus Christ, let Wheeler develop and don't take a chance on a guy with a ton of innings like Price.

Another Mets thread, really?

I think the Rays would jump on that deal.

I rather have Wheeler... Cheaper and might be better in the long run...

Right now the Mets can't count on Harvey for 2014. The Mets should keep Wheeler and let him develop. Sometimes the best trades are the ones you don't make. Wheeler is young and a big upside, vs. trading him for a high mileage pitcher like a David Price.
