Hinch on Cubs' list

07:24 AM ET 10.02 | Perhaps the storyline that seemed so easy to swallow in Chicago may not work out with Joe Girardi returning to the Windy City to manage on the North Side. As the Chicago Cubs' chances to hire [Girardi] as manager seemingly diminish, here is one name to keep in mind: San Diego Padres assistant GM and former Arizona Diamondbacks manager A.J. Hinch. Hinch is on the Cubs' list of possibilities, according to sources and would be a more viable candidate from the Padres than special assistant Brad Ausmus, who managed Team Israel in the World Baseball Classic in March. Hinch, the D-backs' former farm director, has experience working with young players and as an MLB manager. He had little chance to succeed as manager in Arizona.

Why talk about the playoffs when there is always the list of walking dead to consider?

Dammit, isn't Ernie Banks still alive?

Hinch would be a better pick than Girardi. He is use to dealing with younger players. hopefully he can lite a fire under Castro. Girardi is use to dealing with seasoned veterans. just make out the line up and set back and watch the game. Girardi would not be so patient with rookies and second year players which is the bulk of the team.

Ausmus would also be a good candidate as well.

Girardi did just fine with a young Marlin team before going to the Yankees. Was at least a strong candidate for manager of the year. I don't recall if he won or not.

The payroll on that team was a measly $15M.

His Mgr of The Year award was as meant to stick a finger in Luria's eye as well as reward Girardi for a great managing job.
Luria fired him for not being " respectful" enough.

What good is it to hire so called big time managers if you have no one to manage?? Sell more gum and obtain some players worth paying millions to. This makes no sense to me.

It certainly didn't seem to make sense to fire Sveum with a year left on his contract. It's not like this team is ready to improve anytime soon no matter who manages it.

Hinch is a bad idea. Seemed clueless here in PHX on D-back stint.
