NHL's most indispensable player

07:34 AM ET 10.02 | This season opens with somewhat more manageable expectations on Broadway, which isn't to say the job facing new head coach Alain Vigneault is an easy one -- although one decision is a lock: his goaltender. Henrik Lundqvist is probably the most indispensable player to his team in the NHL, though John Tavares is right there with him. It is imperative for The King to come out of the gate strong -- not always the case -- in order to give the Rangers time to adapt to Vigneault's system. Lundqvist, the most high-profile player to enter the walk year of his contract in the hard cap era, will also be in net for Team Sweden in the Olympics, so the Blueshirts need Martin Biron to win games in order to maintain a sensible workload for The King.

The King will be fine and Biron is a capable back up. We just need to score more than 2 goals a game for a change. Be interesting to know how many of Henrik's losses the last couple of years were when the team scored less than 3 for him.

have you not seen what passes for a Rangers' power play?
I've been saying for years, they should just decline the penalty

The King just needs Sather to prove he doesnt have to lose 2-1 every night. Then he signs.

Funny how what appears on face value to be a story about the great PK Chelios is actually about some goalie in New York?

Never judge a book by its cover I guess...

Good thing Parros jumped in or those white chiclets you speak might be in the zamboni by now.

I noticed that too. But that is presumably what Parros is there for, so the cream can rise.......

If you hadn't mentioned this I would've forgotten he played last night. Total non-factor.

I don't know, it wasn't him coughing up the puck allowing breakaways (that would be Markov)and he got his shots from the point (they just didn't go in) and he had Raymond lined up for a slobberknocker, etc.

Game 1.....
