07:40 PM ET 10.02 | For the first time since tearing his left Achilles tendon in a 118-116 victory over the Golden State Warriors on April 12, Los Angeles Lakers guard Kobe Bryant returned to the basketball court on Wednesday. Although he did not participate in practice with his teammates, the Lakers were happy to have Bryant back on the court in any capacity. Clearly, Bryant isn't close to a return, but seeing Bryant shooting and jogging on the court is obviously a huge step in the right direction.

I am no Kobe fan but one thing you can be sure of ... Kobe will NOT model DRose.

I love watching Kobe play and love his competitiveness- but everyone knows- even if he comes back 90%- the Lakers are not going anywhere this season

their payrolls issues caused them to fill major holes with major losers- like Kaman, Nick Young, Farmar, Wes, etc.

the best thing Kobe could do is sit out the season- let the Lakers bottom out and try and get one of about 6-7 very good players in the draft (there are truly about 3-4 elites- Wiggins, Randle, Parker and maybe Exum if he comes out- and 3-4 very good players- Harrison, Gordon, Smart)

with one of those top 6 picks they could land if not a franchise player- then a #2 type guy- and then with the cap room they could hope to land a couple very good players- al though besides Melo there will be no franchise altering guys available.

I am sure Kobe will play so he can creep up that all-time scorers list but in my opinion its not the right move- the ceiling of this Lakers team is getting smashed in the first round.

at this point you would easily take the TWolves, Warriors and Griz over the Lakers----

and that does not even count the elite in the West- LAC, OKC, SAS

That's where kobe and rose are different rose took more time then he probably needed (maybe it was gthe best thing he did maybe the dumbest, only he'll know), while kobe will more then likely come back before he's completely ready and it could be great or it could be devastating to his career

Every team you mention have injury issues.
SAS - Tony, Kwahi, Manu are all often hurt, plus Timmy is 68 now
LAC - big year, put up or shut up time for both Doc and CP3
OKC - No westbrook, no OKC. period!
HOU - Look good on paper
Griz - Probably took a step back with new coach
GSW - Bogut, Curry always hurt
DEN - sucks
LAL - IF Kobe can play at 75% +, they easily have a chance to be 6-8 seed.

I can't give the wolves any advance credit based on their own injury issues.but even by your #s- the lakers could easily slip into the 8 seed

I think the wolves could be a sleeper team their are many people that constantly rag on the wolves but they have some talent but you are right they must have one of the worst injury records in the league

Per ESPN LA - Kobe just left the country for sexual reassignment surgery.
