NFL considering a 'blood rule'?

07:09 AM ET 10.03 | Closing in on Halloween, NFL fans witnessed the somewhat gruesome sight of blood gushing from the bridge of J.J. Watt's nose while he continued to play. [Former NFL head of officiating] Mike Pereira said he believes the sight of Watt bleeding on the field will make the NFL's Competition Committee queasy. "The NFL does not have a blood rule," Pereira said. "Hockey has it, college football has it, the NBA has it: If you have blood on your person you're asked to leave the game and it has to be stopped and your uniform cleaned up. Should the NFL have a blood rule? I think they should. In this day and age of infectious diseases it makes sense, and that's exactly why all the other sports have gone in that direction. ... I'd bet you that they address it in the offseason, especially after seeing J.J. Watt."

What baloney. Football is a contact sport. Players contact each other, and players contact the ground. This results in bruises, mostly, but often the occasional cut. It's no big deal. How many times have you seen a player with blood on his uniform?

It's just another excuse for a commercial, if you ask me.

Eventually dominoes will be more of a contact sport than the NFL.

They need to do something to make dominoes more appealing. Those little black-and-white rectangles just don't translate well to Hi-Def TV. And there's not much going on with the Dominoes threads on FN, either.

So all those iconic images of bloody, mud caked 'warriors' from the earlier years will stopped being used by the NFL to glorify the game?

They're working hard to eliminate the mud, too.

Under normal circumstances I would consider this post asinine, but with Chiorboy at the helm it's not only possible, but probable.

These have been around for quite awhile and now that we know that you can't contract AIDS playing basketball, perhaps we can relax about a little blood on a football field.

I heartily disagree. Going forward remember you have the right to remain silent.

Just a few more yrs and the NFL will be called the "National Flagfootball League".....its getting to the point you can't hit no-one, your uniform has to be clean and you must be well groomed and manicured.
