07:20 AM ET 10.04 | Doc Rivers, who is trying to lead the Clippers to their first title, is under no delusions about his new NBA hometown. [Los Angeles] is a Lakers town. "It always will be," Rivers said. So how do the Clippers go about changing that? "We're not going to try," Rivers said. "We're just going to fight for our fans. We don't want to take away the Lakers' fans. They're great. They have forged their own history. We're going to forge our own history. The city is big enough to have two teams." Rivers said there was no extra motivation to play in Staples Center, where the Lakers' championship banners and retired jerseys hang from the rafters, but that he looks forward to the teams' four games this season as the Clippers look to develop their own home-court advantage.

Doc speaks the truth... Just like NYC will always be a Knicks town.... Nets be-gone...!!!

No really Doc? It's not like NBA fans wouldn't already know this.

Does Doc do an interview with someone every day?

Until the Clips win the NBA title, baby!

He's right. The Fakers will always be #1 in LA. But there's no reason the Clippers can't make some noise while they get their shift together.

The Clipps need to win more than "one" NBA title to be called L.A's town.

Doc speaks the truth. Even if the Clipps win rings, they still have a mountain to climb and honestly they probably will never overcome the Lakers power in LA.

More and more I'm beginning to understand as a man what I didn't understand as a kid. It's not about the other guy, it's about you. Each day as each game brings about the challenge of being better than you were the day before, the game before. When you compete against yourself you never come up short, because you determine what works for you, as opposed to trying to figure out what might work against another individual. #butthatsjustme

Well, yeah. No way the Clips are taking L.A. away from the Lake Show.

Oh....and this is brilliant by Doc because he's defusing any talk like that from his guys if they start out well this year....and taking pressure off of them if they fall short this year.

what's Doc have to be sore about?? look at the Clippers roster for 2014... now look at the Lakers roster?? lmfao.....

It's not about the rosters at the beginning of the season, it's about the wins at the end of the season. The Clippers haven't proven anything as of yet, except win their first Pacific division title last year. Regardless, I liked what DOC said.
