Zach Thomas welcomed the news the Dolphins terminated his contract Thursday, ending a dozen decorated but frustrating seasons in Miami. Thomas met with Miami football czar Bill Parcells and general manager Jeff Ireland on Thursday morning, at which time he actually thanked them for releasing him. Agent Drew Rosenhaus said he got several calls from teams interested in Thomas within hours of the player's release. The agent would not disclose what teams had called but did admit he's got a list of teams Thomas would be interested in playing for. Among those are Dallas, New England, Indianapolis and San Diego.

The choice of going from the basement to the top teams in the league. Who wouldn't jump at that chance?

February 15, 2008  06:47 AM ET

Well if he can't play for Miami I would obviously love him to come to San Diego.

Cincy needs LB's

February 15, 2008  07:42 AM ET

Panthers should take a look, although Beason appears to be a monster, Dan Morgan got cut. Would be cool to sign him to two years.

February 15, 2008  07:45 AM ET

Denver would be more than happy to add an LB.

Isn't this guy a major injury risk?

February 15, 2008  08:11 AM ET

He's hardly a major injury risk, assuming he can pass the medical. Before the car accident, he only missed a handful of games in his time there. it's not as if he's a guy who has spent his career in and out of treatment room. Unless it's like Al Wilson and nobody is willing to risk him.

The funny thing for me is those teams listed, obviously they're all contenders, but they all play defensive systems he hasn't played before. He's clearly an intelligent player but to pick up complex defenses like Indy or the 3-4 the others run could be hard

February 15, 2008  08:12 AM ET

''I have zero concerns about Zach's health situation,'' Rosenhaus said.
Oh really? Let me see, he missed all but five games with concussion problems, is 35 years old, team doctors refused to clear him in December, and now he is good to go?????Trent Green and Zach Thomas could not concentrate long enough to fill out a job application.....If they were boxers they would be not be allowed to fight in 48 states...

February 15, 2008  08:22 AM ET

I don't doubt he could pick up Indys system but the problem is he is not the type of player who they want. They want young fast defenders. He is old. And like 50 said he is a health risk.

February 15, 2008  08:26 AM ET

As a Denver fan, I would take him, however he is going to the Pats.

February 15, 2008  08:29 AM ET

If he goes to new England he's gonna have an amazing year. Just like every other Dolphin that goes to the Pats....Wes Welker...heath Evans. We should of atleast traded him. If Dallas really does want him parcells could of tried trading him for Dallas' first round pick. I doubt they'd do that I know they want are first round so Jerry J. can get Mcfadden but it would be worth a try instead of just letting him go.

As a Dolfan I love ZT, I was sorry to see him go, but his health is definitely an issue. I would hate for him to go to NE, eventhough he has some friends over there (a lot of Ex-Fins in NE). I think he will end up in SD, Indy or Dallas

There is no way that Miami would get a first round pick from anyone for him. It takes a lot for a player to be traded for a first round pick, and not one that is 35 years old. I think he might be good in New England or San Diego. He is not what they need in Indy, and the cowboys need corners and safeties, not linebackers.

February 15, 2008  09:09 AM ET

Hmmmm, Thomas and his rickity neck want to play for one of last years Super Bowl favorites, good luck with that.

February 15, 2008  09:19 AM ET

Patriots bound...........won't have to play all downs.....if other guys return for another year. We also want Jason Taylor.

February 15, 2008  09:25 AM ET

ZT will play for a contender "retire" and then come back to the Fins for an afternoon- he will use the restroom in Davie , shake hands with some secretaries, tour the ole locker room and then officially retire( like Jerry Rice and Thurman Thomas did with SF and Buffalo)

Maybe its me being hopeful, but I see a lot of parallels between the Pats and the Yanks of 2002-on. Every old guy with a big price tag is linked to them. I hope the Pats sign him, they'll have the oldest linebacking crew in history and fall short again.

Go GIANTS!!!
