Cubs' Plan B

07:23 AM ET 10.04 | If the Cubs have to scratch Joe Girardi off their list, what then? Think Indians bench coach Sandy Alomar Jr., and you have what might be a rough prototype for the Cubs' backup plan if they don't nab the Yankees' free-agent manager, who has been a long-term target of Cubs ownership for years. Alomar, former Diamondbacks manager A.J. Hinch and former Indians and Nationals manager Manny Acta are among the potential candidates the Cubs will seek if the Great Girardi Deliberation now underway in New York goes against them, sources say. Despite differences in career tracks, all have some of the more important qualities Theo Epstein's front office seeks in its next candidate: player-development backgrounds and/or track records for nurturing and developing young players.

Girardi.

NO Manny Acta!

NO Manny Acta!

He'll be managing the Reds.

It doesn't matter who they hire because the Cubs are probably a decade away from catching up with the rest of the division.

They could bring Larry Bowa in for entertainment value.

Well on that note why take half measures? Bring in Bobby Valentine.

The only experience you would need to be Manager of the Cubs is to be able to get Theo's dry cleaning (no starch in the collars please), stop at Starbucks on the way in for the office, clean the pee troughs in the bathrooms, and memorize 3 answers that you'll use every day at the press conference after you lose. How hard can that be? They don't need Girardi for that. Way too expensive.

Plan B - Find someone dumb enough to work for the Boy Blunder. The Cubs are no closer to being a competitive team than they were two years ago when Epstein was hired. But the real estate development is moving forward.

They're only on Plan B?

Epstein screwed up plan A when he signed E6 Castro o a long term deal.

Yes, sell more beer. That way not as many people notice how bad the Cubs are. Cheers!

Manny Acta may manage somewhere maybe back to nationals. But Baker will still be managing the Reds. I would like to see Reds fire hitting coach Brook Jacoby and hire some one who understands and convince payers to shorten their swings, especially with runners in scoring position. And concentrate on putting ball in play, instead of swinging for fences, thus reducing strikeouts

Baker was fired.

Both times, (or was it 3 times?) Sandy Alomar Jr. played for the W. Sox, the media raved about how professional and smart he is, and that he would end up being a manager pretty quickly.
I was hoing he would be the W. Sox manager two year ago, instead of Robin "zero coaching experience" Ventura.
Actuall, I am still hoping Alomar Jr. would come manage the 2014 W. Sox.
