Santonio Holmes isn't playing up to his contract

10:20 AM ET 10.05 | Santonio Holmes comes with a monster price tag, and not just the $7.5 million the Jets are paying him this season. Holmes is a blend of playmaker, problem child and enigma who sometimes makes you wonder whether the price is worth the payoff. The price comes in the form of comments like the ones Holmes made Thursday, when he pointed a finger at quarterback Geno Smith and the rest of the offense. The payoff comes in games like he played two weeks ago against the Bills, when he caught the game-winning touchdown. But the instances of Holmes putting the Jets on his shoulders have been outnumbered by dustups with teammates or a poor choice of words to the media. The Jets gave Holmes a five-year $45 million deal in the summer of 2011. Since then, he has played 24 games. In that time, he has gone over 100 yards receiving just twice, including the 154-yard performance against Buffalo. He has had more than six catches in a game just once, has not recorded more than one touchdown in any game and has a total of 10 scores.

There was a reason the Steelers let him walk.

Blame it on Sanchez.

Considering who was throwing him the ball up to this year, it's understandable he had a drop off.

Then again, he's a malcontent diva who gets into legal trouble too often.

But he is playing up to full ability. So the question is focused on the wrong party. The question should have been " Is the Jets front office influenced by drugs when they make decisions"

Damn! Sounds like TO is back!

This fool is not worth the bother, that's why the Steelers traded him for a 5th round draft pick.

So you paid too much. Be glad it ain't the Flacco contract for 120 mil. Even the Rogers contract may prove to be a budget buster. He can't pass if he is on his arse all day. I mean why would the team not draft top O linemen to protect your 125 million QB?

Would you be referring to a Buttfumble?

I had a crappy week at work and blamed it on Sanchez. I felt better.

When healthy, the Steelers' starting O-line consists has on it 2 1st rounders, 2 2nd rounders, and an undrafted FA. Hasn't worked out too well to this point.

Even more sad is the fact that the undrafted FA is not the problem...

He plays on the Jets, what do you expect? He was pretty good in Pittsburgh but they had a QB.
