10:32 AM ET 10.05 | When Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning was a free agent a few years ago, Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones never pursued him. That's because, Jerry Jones said, he already had a franchise quarterback in place in Tony Romo. "I was so committed to Romo, so committed to his future," Jerry Jones said Friday on KRLD-FM. "Of course, Peyton has been a friend for a long time and someone we respect a lot. There were a lot of moving parts during that particular time. The real reason it didn't work out is because we are as committed as we are to Tony."

It would have been wasted effort Jerry. Peyton didn't want you to call the plays, he does a pretty good job of it now.

"Jerry Jones: Why Cowboys didn't pursue Peyton Manning"

Because JJ knows as much about football as I know about quasars.

God Bless you JJ. May you keep Romo forever.

why go after Peyton Manning when you have Tony Romo; how's that working out for you JJ?

October 5, 2013  10:53 AM ET

Yep, Jerry. You committed yourself to Romo and locked so much money into him that you have at least 2 starters on the o-line that wouldn't make the practice squad elsewhere.

Romo may not be there forever, but his cap hit will.

Peyton Manning didn't want to play in the same conference as his brother, let alone the same division.

It would have been a waste of the Dallas Cowboys time to pursue Peyton.

It's not like the Mav's owner is being hauled into court for insider trading or anything like that. Oh wait.....

Well, at least Nolan Ryan and his GM are getting along. Oh, wait a sec....

Add to it Sherman lost "The Battle of the Ax" last night and it's a pretty damn lousy weekend so far.

Well, take heart. Either the Giants or the Eagles are going to lose this weekend.

My weekend may be as bad. I'll watch the Wolverines destroy my Gophers, then I'm heading to the Sun Bowl to watch La Tech destroy UTEP.

Thank God for beer.

Jerry is trying to rewrite history. The truth was Jones and Dallas had their salary cap reduced because of front loading contracts. There is no legal way they could have signed Manning without releasing half the team.

I guess for a billionaire it is hard to mutter the words " I couldn't afford to buy him "

Jerry knew the Cowboys stood as much of a chance to land Peyton as the J-E-T-S would have. Plus, Peyton runs his own offense, and would not have had it any other way.
