Danny Ainge isn't sold on Andrew Wiggins' NBA future

10:34 AM ET 10.06 | Without mentioning Andrew Wiggins, Boston general manager Danny Ainge made it clear that he doesn't believe the Canadian will be the next great star in the NBA. In fact, he went out of his way, without naming Wiggins (which he isn't allowed) to distance himself from the apparent No. 1 pick in next year's NBA Draft. "If Kareem Abdul-Jabbar was out there to change your franchise forever, or Tim Duncan was going to change your franchise for 15 years? That might be a different story," Ainge said when asked about tanking the season, which appears to be the Celtics strategy. "I don't see that player out there."

I won't use the Toronto Sun for the bottom of my bird cage.

Ainge is blowing smoke up someone's rear end.

He could be right. We haven't seen how good Wiggins is. The highlights are great but what about actual game time and smarts against college players?

He Is Coming To LA, Bro.

Seriously dude.....were you saying the same thing about LeBron James when he came out of HS?

My point.....we've seen as much about Wiggins as we've saw from James when he came out.....and teams were tanking like crazy for a shot at him....

exactly-it is easy for a physical freak to dominate against HS kids......can we see him go up against kids in a legit college bball conferenceto see if he really is a 'difference' maker.......

Again.....same thing was said about LBJ.......

So you're saying he is the next Lebron? We've seen Lebron as a kid who did it all. He had the PG mentality. Does Wiggins have the same mentality? I've seen the dunks and highlight reels but not the smarts yet. Show me a game where he takes over.

I KNEW you were gonna come back with that response (LOL) .

Again, my point......we have seen as much from Wiggins as we've saw from Lebron. And PG mentality not withstanding.....the kid is a highly skilled, physically imposing/dominate, alphs-male, ball player.

And EVERYONE who has seen this kid play and knows basketball......knows this.

Danny Ainge? He's not a Wiggins hater. And he knows darn well how good Wiggins is gonna be. Make no mistake about it; he wants that kid in green and white.....and he'd sale his blood to get him.

He just wants to fool the suckers out there.

Ainge is covering his arse just in case the team makes the playoffs. Anyways I've seen his highlights and I'm totally amaze. I still need to see his leadership skills and his ability to take over and make others better. Highlights don't show those kind of skills. telfair was also highly coveted by many college teams but didn't really pan out well. Oden was man among boys but didn't dominate in the pros. Nerlens Noel was also like that before he got recruited by Kentucky.

Valid question.

I forgot about OJ Mayo who has been in media highlights since his middle school years.

Well......I've seen Wiggins play at a couple of Nike tournaments last summer. And none of the players you mentioned are as good as Wiggins. They aren't even close.

I think.....since you've only seen video.....that it's a bit beyond you to have a true sense of what he can and can't do. But.....it's absolutely your right to reserve your praises until you actually see him play.

Remember this, though. At age 18, Wiggins will be playing at the highest level of college basketball. At 18, Lebron James was still beating up on school boys in Akron.

Lmao...Have you actually seen this kid play?Unless he starts smoking meth, he is a can't miss prospect.

Not denying he wouldn't be #1 but will he be a franchise changer like Lebron and Timmy? Everybody is acting like he will be close to Lebron or better.
