Worst case for Matthews

07:12 AM ET 10.08 | Two weeks ago, it was a hamstring pull the Packers were sweating out with Clay Matthews. Now they'll sweat out the broken thumb he suffered against the Detroit Lions on Sunday. A league source confirmed Matthews had broken the thumb and would be evaluated this week to see what the proper course of action should be. In some instances, players can play with a large, soft cast on their hand to protect the break and in some cases it can take six weeks for the injury to heal. The worst-case scenario would be that Matthews would need surgery, in which it wouldn't be out of the question that he would be out for the season. The Packers still are able to put one player on injured reserve/designated for return, which would allow them to sign a player to take Matthews' spot but would require him to be out a minimum of six weeks.

I see a 9-7 record in the Packers immediate future.

Which should be good enough for a playoff berth with the demise of the Falcons.

Shame, but karma got him.

Wish he'd break his face so advertisers would say "We'll look elsewhere".

A "large, soft cast?"

Sounds like the "Rosanne" show.

ABSOLUTELY, not just because of the Falcons though, but for the sorry NFC.

Where do they come up with these titles of these articles??? This story was in our local paper here in Milwaukee, but it's not the worst case scenario at all. He's going to miss a month only. Worst case scenario would have been out for the year. Crappy job interns! Way to sensationalize.

Wouldn't the worst case for Matthews be if someone covered his position and performed better than Matthews?

Having two guys of that caliber would dramatically improve the Packers' chances.

He had two dozen packages of bratwurst shipped to his house, and auto-correct changed "Wurst Case" to "Worst Case."
