Steve Smith daring Goodell to fine him

07:13 AM ET 10.08 | At least part of Panthers wideout Steve Smith remained contrite. [Smith] took responsibility for his dropped touchdown pass in Sunday's 22-6 loss at Arizona -- and then took repeated shots Monday at one of the game officials who worked the game. Smith was upset with several calls and non-calls in the defensive backfield, saying the Cardinals' coverage crossed the line from physical to "molesting." ... Smith is aware his comments about officials could draw a fine from commissioner Roger Goodell. "To be honest, I make enough money where if Roger wants to fine me he can. But I really think that referee probably was the sorriest referee that I have ever met," Smith said. "When I dove for the first down (and) he was standing right there, he didn't even acknowledge -- he received a check that day and I hope he feels good. He was terrible. He was garbage."

Plan on meeting Roger very soon at his office and bring your debit card.

Matt Flynn received one too - two weeks ago. He was garbage too.

Moral of story - rip sorry QB's instead of sorry officials.

High Lord Roger Goddell does not brook disrespect.

Oh Steve, Stevie, Stevie, Stevie.

Your wallet shall feel the full brunt of the High Lord Goddell's wrath.

Gonna be mac and cheese for a while.

True or not that team has issues to worry about more, except when they play the Giants. HA!!

Complaining about bad officiating should be protected free speech, but we can't let anyone's feelings get hurt now, can we?

October 8, 2013  08:50 AM ET

I hope one day I can shrug off a $10k+ fine

I saw some pitiful calls/non calls in that Dallas - Denver game but I think they pretty much balanced out. I don't know if officiating is getting worse or replay, more cameras, and HD just make it look that way.

be careful of what you ask for Mr Smith, I am sure ole Rog will oblige

QUOTE(#8):

it's all about the feelings in the NFL. The owners and Goodell should get together and tell Obama to mind his own business too

Goodell should find Obama for dissing the 'Skins.

DUIs, gun offenses, assaults, spousal abuse, drugs, manslaughter - those are fine as long as you don't open your mouth.

Hail to the Redskins!!

Excuse me if I do not assume Steve Smith's version is totally accurate. I only know he dropped a TD pass and some others that were costly in giving his team a chance to win. He, too, collected a check that day. A very big one.

The Chiefs/Tennessee game had some terrible officiating too. Both sides got bent over that whole game.

Every receiver in the NFL thinks he was interfered with any time a DB has any contact with him at all. Happens over and over every game. Smith is and always was a all pro whineazzzz.

I did not see the interview where Obama provided an opinion on the Redskins name change debate --- but I have read that his comment came in response to a direct question at the end of the interview. Doesn't sound like meddling to me.

As for Steve Smith, even if he's right about the ref (could well be) that is not why they lost the game. They stink more than their opponent.

Doesn't it seem like 3/4s of the teams are below average this year?
