07:21 AM ET 10.08 | Even if Yankees second baseman Robinson Cano isn't going to land in Los Angeles, the chatter has implications. Major League Baseball is looking into comments made last week by Magic Johnson, who is part of the Los Angeles Dodgers' ownership group, about [Cano], sources say. Johnson indicated to reporters Thursday that the Dodgers will not pursue Cano. "Though I can't talk about it, that other guy in New York is going to get paid," Johnson said. ... Cano will not formally file for free agency until after the World Series, and until that happens, officials with teams other than the Yankees are not allowed to speak about him publicly. In addition, executives are instructed by MLB to refrain from commenting on specific players because it could affect players' market value.

Magic was clearly issuing a negotiating message to Boras with his comments last week.

This is ticky tack. He answered a question as best he could and then moved on.

As far as Cano, I think he ends up with a surprise team (perhaps the Nationals?).

The Giants...

Yomiuri Giants, that is.

Cano is not worth 30 million a year. He is not even worth 20 million. The Yanks should remember A-Rod, Tex, Burnett, Sabathia. If I were them I would offer the 20 million then incentive laden contract. Make him work for it.

That's the amount of their next TV contract.
