07:22 AM ET 10.09 | While it seems the Cubs are willing to wait for Joe Girardi, there's a chance the Yankees aren't as patient. Hal Steinbrenner loved the job [Girardi] did through so many injuries this season and extended a contract offer he feels represents just how badly the Yankees want to retain the manager, but the managing general partner accentuated a decision is needed relatively quickly because of all the work the team has in front of it this offseason. ... [Said Steinbrenner:] "I think both sides agree -- I don't want to speak for Joe -- but that something has to get done or not done fairly quickly because there is a lot of work to be done." Ideally, the Yankees want an answer before they hold organizational meetings in Tampa that are scheduled for next week.

Wow - first comment is from a spammer? Slow morning.

Simple Hal. give him permission today to talk to the Cubs or anyone else. Then set a deadline on your offer. Not hard at all.

Hope you at least enjoyed what was a thrilling game, if not for the outcome for your team.

It was a good game until they gave it away. Walks and wild pitches. Jeez ...

Dragging today. My head didn't hit the pillow until 1:45.

2004 was like that, almost every night I seemed to be going to bed really late

With all the 3-2 counts and pitching changes, that was the longest 3-1 game I have ever watched.

Both teams had 6 hits, all singles for the Bosox and one double for the Rays...but the Bosox had 10 men reach on walks and HBPs, and the Rays had ZERO extra baserunners. Xander scored twice after reaching on walks, didn't have an official AB.

This is standard negotiating with Joe, put an offer out there and act like they need an answer immediately. They're not going to pull it if he doesn't give a response before their incredibly important meetings.

Morning moose. Maddon's substitutions gave me a headache.

Yep......Give him a week or 2 to contact anyone who be interested and see what they got to offer.

Peavy was on. It seemed like the Rays were stepping up to the plate already 0-2. I was surprised he was pulled when he was.

The Sox bullpen was solid last night.

Yeah - 9 pitchers is a bit much. But let's face it, most got the job done. I didn't have a problem with him yanking Hellickson. The guy has been falling apart quickly the whole second half. My question is, why start the guy at all if you can't trust him?

11 batters faced, one hit, seven strikeouts.

Never put the SCREWS to someone that's on the fence about coming back. They'll BOLT. (HA! I crack myself up). :)
