Rookie may crack OKC rotation

07:16 AM ET 10.11 | What a difference a year makes for Steven Adams, who not all that long ago was an overmatched freshman at Pitt. Ten months later, the one-time project is, well, still correctly labeled as an ongoing project. But instead of preparing for his sophomore season at Pitt, the New Zealand native is in his first training camp with the Oklahoma City Thunder, viewed by many as the team's future at the center position. ... Time will tell and history would suggest otherwise, with Scott Brooks showing a usual reluctance to play young guys over known veteran commodities. Kendrick Perkins is the entrenched starter. Hasheem Thabeet is the returning backup. But Adams, already viewed as the future, could be making a push for a rotation spot in the present.

I think he will be 2nd behind Kendrick Perkins before the year is over...just sayin'. Good morning Mecca.

they better get some value on the court from their drafts.

just 2 years ago Presti looked bullet proof and could not make a wrong move. Lately not so much......

They need to hit on some moves before the trade deadline if they want to get back to bein the favorite in the West. I think Gortat is a guy they should seriously look and would help them a lot. Dragic on the Suns would also help a ton if they could somehow get both of those guys in a package.

If not Dragic then some other kind of combo guard that can shoot a three and get to the rim.

They honestly need a center that can score in the paint and be a presence defensively. They have an overabundance of young guards ready to go on this team. If anything they also need a solid backup PG as well.

I agree. OKC's biggest problem is that they do not have a scoring center...other problem is, there aren't that many centers in the league anymore, let alone a scorning center. The Heat has won back to back NBA championships without a true center, so this logic is flawed. I do agree though that OKC needs a center that can score and play defense...they may just have their future center in Steven Adams....as a Thunder fan, I sure hope so. Through two preseason games and summer league, he has looked sharp for a rookie.

This could be awesome for OKC if they have found their Center for the future.

Durant and Westbrook arent' getting any younger. How long can they wait for the teenager to morph into a real player?

OKC needs help in the middle. They need to go out and get a proven vet. There's lots of old guys out there that can play.

I think with perk's expiring contract, they should make a play to get Asik, who is available. That'll need a 3rd team to be involved to take Perk, but should be doable. Rockets might get Lamb, not a bad deal.

Since the Thunder just dismissed Daniel Orton, I would say this thread is a no brainer because the Thunder only has 3 centers on the roster now.

Asik doesn't really score.

Yup...I agree 100%. I hope OKC holds onto Steven Adams. He has the potential to be very good down the road.

I predict that not only will Steven Adams crack the rotation, I think he will even start a few games for the Thunder this season. Thabeet just isn't NBA material and Perkins can't stay healthy or in shape.

True. But better than Perk for sure. Good Centers are so hard to find.
