09:13 AM ET 10.12 | Lou Piniella, back in the dugout? The Seattle Mariners recently contacted Piniella about the possibility, asking him to come out of retirement to manage their team again. One source with knowledge of the discussions described the Mariners' pursuit of Piniella as "a full-court press." Piniella, however, declined the Mariners' overtures. "I talked to them about the job, but that's it," Piniella told FOX Sports on Thursday night. "There was nothing else to it. It was just conversation, nothing more." Piniella, 70, said he does not want to manage again.

Perhaps the Mariners should try something different this time. Like maybe recruiting and retaining talent with which a competitive team can be formed. Then it might be easier to recruit a manager as well.

I don't see that happening either. I saw an interview a while back and as I recall his wife didn't want to go to Seattle the first time he went as manager. He's comfortable now, so why trade sunshine for rain?

Seattle should give up on Piniella. Start search for a manager else where. There will be more candidates after post season. They have all winter to find a manager.
