Rangers bench shell-shocked Henrik Lundqvist

09:23 AM ET 10.12 | Saturday will in essence be a mental health day for Henrik Lundqvist, for with his team breaking down -- and breaking bad -- in front of him through the season's hellish first week, the goaltender will watch from the bench as Martin Biron gets the start in St. Louis against the Blues. Lundqvist, in his ninth season as a Ranger, has never looked as fried as he did following Thursday's 6-0 defeat in Anaheim, during which the Ducks beat him six times within the first 36:15 of the match, a night after the Sharks beat him four times in 29:19 before he was pulled for Biron in the 9-2 debacle in St. Louis. The goaltender was as obviously as shaken as he was concerned and mystified by the club's all-encompassing ineptitude on their trek through the western time zone, appearing shell-shocked as he spoke to reporters in a long since deserted locker room a half-hour after the game had ended.

Is that one of those fancy European Soccer teams?

Sean Monahan scores the game winner for his fourth goal in four games.

I wonder when Burkie is sending him down?

October 12, 2013  09:53 AM ET

Seguin scores 2 goals and has 2 assists.

I wonder if the Stars fans chanted "Thank You Kessel"?

I hope this doesn't Hertl too much.

The Rangers really miss Three Fingers' therapy.

Or .... trading him for a couple of 1st round picks.

And the in-your-face attitude, and the swift kick Torts brought.

Good thing Edler's aim in throwing a head shot is as good as when he's shooting the puck on net.

As a good Frenchman, AV would rather make love or surrender than make war.

Henrik is the LAST line of defense, he's wondering where the hell was the first line.

Sounds like he's the last one in the locker room too.

Not very assuring for Rangers fans.

Yeah but, he didn't really earn them. Don't know what or why the Jets played like that for a period and a half, but the 75% or so they've been putting out so far this season turned into about 5 % - a completely unacceptable and unprofessional performance. Looked like they were all waiting for someone else to do it - including O Pavelic this time. No one stood up when Gumdrop tried to take out Byfuglien's eye - a dozen or more other teams would've had a brawl. Little Orphan Annie could've had a hat trick for the Stars by the middle of the second. The only good news was Byf came back and played ell, and the Jets got back to around three quarter effort - so much for big raises all around. Ladd should have his take increased. Enstrom and Little are earning theirs, and Buff, Peluso, Tangradi, and Thor better get tough soon, or the playoffs are a pipedream - hey, they're caling the penalties anyway, might as well make them worthwhile. Go Flames!

Oh for crying out loud! Let it go!

I like what Kessel has done in T.O. He's a one ball man with a quick stick in his hand and he's off to beat the Oils! ;)

October 12, 2013  07:00 PM ET

I hope for the Rangers sake they start playing like a team who cares, cause that's a goalie ya just don't want to lose!

Shell shock? How bout blown up completely!

October 13, 2013  08:00 AM ET

Might be a great time to poach a good young player from NY, whilst panic sets in after a horrid start out west. Stepan anyone? How about Girardi or DelZotto?

October 13, 2013  08:01 AM ET

Speaking of poaching, maybe Reimer +Gardiner = Eberle or RNH, as the Oilers are a mess on the blueline and in net.

Doubt that the Oilers are that dumb.

Then again, they tried to build a team to win every game 7-6.
