Falcons front office to blame for poor start?

08:21 AM ET 10.13 | Earlier this year, the "Sunday Blitz" noted the failure of the Falcons' brass to draft and develop a viable pass-rush threat, and to have to rely instead on trade and free agency to supply rushmen. So far this season, the offensive line should merit the same kind of scrutiny. There have been some nettlesome constants with the Falcons -- the injuries, "red zone" and third-down conversion failures, not finishing drives or winning close games -- but the problems on the offensive line might trump them all. And, frankly, are likely responsible for some of the shortcomings. Dimitroff and Smith made a conscious decision to release right tackle Tyson Clabo and to not try to talk center Todd McClure out of retirement, the way they did tight end Tony Gonzalez. McClure suggested this week that he would have come back for a 15th season, but that he was nudged toward retirement, as the team opted to go with younger players on the line. But the younger players haven???t worked out.

It's a little different in the NFC South when the Saints don't suck, isn't it?

This is the downfall of trading five picks to draft one player.

Julio Jones is a great player but I'm still not convinced he was worth 2 first-round, 1 second-round, and 2 fourth-round picks combined.

A better front office would have used those picks to draft a receiver + additional quality players.

Nothing worse than thinking you are one player away from winning it all. That is when teams do what was never in the plan.

Falcons are in trouble. Not as bad as the Giants or Steelers, but losing Jones really hurts given the future they gave up for him.

Seriously, you could substitute either the Giants or Steelers and have virtually the same article. Only thing you'd have to add is keeping players who are too old.

Memories of the infamous Cowboys Vikings trade.

Honestly, the Falcons have a very slightly better chance of making the playoffs than the Steelers or Giants.

Then again, the Falcon's chances are about 2% while the G-Men are a solid 0% and the Steelers are at 1%

It's a classic "tallest midget" comparison.

I just noticed that the Cowboys and the Romonculus one are in 1st place.

That is one bad division. Perhaps the Giants can squeak in with a 5-11 or 4-12 record.

Falcons have unlucky as well, they were very close to being 4-1 instead of 1-4. They obviously gave up way to much for Julio Jones but when healthy he is a beast and Ryan's contract ironically enough prevented them from keeping Clabo and turning to Trueblood and Holmes, who are awful. If they were to get lucky, they would lose another 9 or 10 games and draft the solution.

It's sad when a team can be 0-6, and not quite mathematically eliminated in their division.

More overpaid QB.

Eli Manning or Tony "The Romonculus One" Romo?

At one time Eli had the largest contract in the NFL.

Yeah, I'd actually claim that the 0-6 Giants have a better chance than the 0-4 Steelers of reaching the playoffs.

Simply based on divisional strength.

October 13, 2013  11:09 AM ET

As much as I've enjoyed the Giants winless start, I'm actually hoping they can start digging out a few wins.

The thought of Big Blue ending up with JaDeveon Clowney is pretty terrifying. Because you know they won't remain a bottom dweller next year.

October 13, 2013  11:11 AM ET

The Giants will finish in last place in the East with a 4-12 or 5-11 record.
