The real question facing Chip Kelly

07:16 AM ET 10.15 | This week, again, the focus in Philadelphia is on Chip Kelly's quarterback choice between Nick Foles and Michael Vick. The more interesting question is whether it is possible for either of them to win the job for next season and perhaps seasons beyond. If the offense continues to produce, it grows increasingly likely the answer to that question will be "yes." But which quarterback? The Eagles have serious rebuilding to do, and the vast majority of it on the defensive side of the ball. As they look ahead to the offseason, holding a middling pick in a quarterback-rich draft, their bargaining power would be heightened if they weren't one of the teams desperate to land one of those quarterbacks. So that is the real story line for the rest of this season.

I don't see how Vick is still with the Eagles at the end of the season, let alone their starting QB and QB of the future. It's either Foles or some yet to be drafted fellow.

If you can't stay on the field you can't stay on the team. It is tme for the Eagles to move on from Vick.

Because Andy Reid left the team with zero defensive talent. Just a collection of old guys and draft busts.

They keep racking up 400+ yards a week so I wouldn't say they have many issues on that side of the ball. Against a very porous and beat up Cowboys defense this week they should continue that streak.

"So that is the real story line for the rest of this season."

What? Will they suck enough to pick up a QB? Or will they give up on Vick and Foles and give the ball to Barkley? Or, even funnier, will they have to play serious football all season and sell out to win, because they NFC East is so bad that they just might take it?

Of course Kelly never had a D like his explosive O in Oregon. Lots of games won with scores 50 something to 40 something.

I hope this week he suffers a loss with a score of 50 something to 40 something...

Wishful thinking O with the Cowboys defense getting thinner by the day and now a serious lack of a running game, like they had one anyway except for one game.

The real question facing Chip Kelly is if he wants the USC job.

October 15, 2013  08:59 AM ET

There is no question about it. Vick is out and Foles is in . Go by what you see. Kelly is just playing nice and not doing a public " bench press"

I think they'll deal Vick and rebuild while they can get at least a few jock straps for him. He'll wind up in Buffalo, Jacksonville, etc.

His very mediocre return will seal the deal on his average career. SO much promise +10 years ago. I hoped his return would be more successful and this would be a "redemption story" but not so much. I guess there is redemption there but not a hollywood ending.

You mean the London Jags, right?

Pokes will prevail.

They may try to deal him, but nobody will trade for him. He's just an injury waiting to happen, and he's not even 100% now. Too many teams are paying too many dollars to guys on IR as it is.

October 15, 2013  10:45 AM ET

The only question he faces is how to tell Vick he is letting him go at seasons end. Maybe the old Andy Reid line-" I am cutting him because he is just too good to be a back up."

You right-Me wrong on that Steelers Jets game. Salute.

From what I've seen of Foles he's done a very good job for the Eagles. I don't think Vick should be the starter either.

Maybe it was just the blind squirrel and the nut, but I still don't think the Steelers are as bad as their record.

They could even beat the Ravens this weekend, but, well, I wouldn't put money on it.
