Howard OK being an outcast

07:20 AM ET 10.16 | Yes, Dwight Howard knows what they're thinking -- from a villain in Central Florida to a coward in Los Angeles. But here's the thing: Even though he still cares what people think, he didn't let that stop him from doing what will make him happiest. ... "Everybody's saying I was a 'coward' for leaving [the Lakers], and I knew I was going to get that," Howard said Tuesday. "But I think with the situation I had to do what was best for Dwight. ... I thought that my decision took a lot of guts because everybody's saying, 'How could you leave the Lakers and six billion fans?' But I don't care about being an outcast or about being somebody that may look bad. All I've got to do is win now, and I'm in the right situation." On Wednesday night, Howard and the Rockets will face the Magic in a preseason exhibition.

Did Howard finally put on his big boy pants ????

We shall see.....

"I thought that my decision took a lot of guts"...

If he hadn't said this line, I would have seen it as putting on his big boy pants. Do what you have to do, don't second guess or try to justify what you've done...

Oh uh! Those haters are gonna get their blood boiling again. They say it doesn't bother them but they go berserk when they read something like this. Brace yourself MMA...

Dwight will shut them up! Just a bad situation last year where he sure didn't get any help from anybody.

No, it saddens me to think I thought higher of you. Neither you nor have any financial interest in any franchise so your accusations are scornfully odd. Your nonsense displays your butt-hurtness and makes you look like very adolescent.

And no one here is more a hater than you. Silly sad man...

If he feels the fans turn on him at every arena he goes to, he will break. LBJ said the year after "the decision" was tough on him, they are very alike in this aspect, they both need the people to like them.......

Dwight.......good luck

There you go Eli! I thought you had more brains than that but you let your emotions and loyalty get to you.

I won't hate Dwight because he didn't come to Dallas. I'll still tell it like it is.

And the Lakers had 1 year and the best chance to keep him but somehow their superstar didn't like him.

Nobody cares.

Good luck to you Dwight Howard...it takes some time to rebuild a reputation (rightly or wrongly preceived). Good morning all.

You laker fans are such big cry babies...Oh how could anyone want to leave the Lakers??? Boo Hoo....The lakers are not an elite team anymore....it's Kobe and a bunch of average players. So laker fans, get over it and quit throwing your temper tandrums everytime you see Dwight Howard....He made the right decision to leave LA, becuse the lakers are on a downward slide.

The lakers will win another ring before Howard wins one, if he does. I like Howard, but I don't believe in his supporting cast in HOU. LAL does have a weak roster, but LA will have no issue reloading talent. Howard basically has to win with what he has now in HOU, which he may, but I don't trust harden or lin as big time players. Harden scores a lot because he shoots enough shots to even make Kobe say "maybe it's time to pass the ball". I like Howard but I have next to zero trust in HOU to surround him with the pieces he needs.

I think Houston is more apt to surround him with the support players than the Magic did...and he was pretty good in Orlando with just okay support players....time will tell. As a fan of a fellow Western Conference team, I really wish the Lakers would have made a deal to send Howard back to the Easter Conference...lol

Time heals old wounds. If you will recall Cavs fans were venomous in their 'attacks' against Lebron but now they are practically begging him to 'come home.' While that could be interpreted as the pathetic nature of Cleveland fans I think the same applies to many sports fans..

Fans want to feel like winners. Many would probably sign a pact with the devil if it would ensure a championship for their team. Why is that? They want to be part of a winning organization and take pride in what 'their' team does. This may be particularly true for those fans that are 'losers' in everyday life.
