07:22 AM ET 10.16 | Timing is everything, and Brian McCann certainly picked a good time to hit the free agent market. [McCann] could receive a deal for six years and $100 million, an MLB GM told ESPN New York on Tuesday. The GM reasoned that McCann is a top-five catcher and could transition to first and DH toward the end of the deal. The highest paid catcher in the game, Joe Mauer, is in the midst of an eight-year, $184 million deal. In March, 2012, Yadier Molina signed a five-year, $75 million deal to remain with the Cardinals. McCann made $12 million in 2013. McCann, who turns 30 in February, has already been the subject of Spend Hal's Money, where we advised the Yankees to go after him. A source with the knowledge of the Yankees' thinking said that if Alex Rodriguez's suspension is upheld, then the club could possibly sign Robinson Cano and McCann.

He would be a huge improvement behind the plate for the Yankees.

McCann could also pick some dingleberries while drinking beer and watching reruns this morning.
Everybody knows Mauer's deal was a disaster, and Molina has been a hell of a lot better than McCann lately.

He's probably incessantly calling Yasiel Puig to yell at him for his disrespect.

And Puig keeps saying, "No Hablo Ingles!"

He'd be a huge improvement behind the plate for most teams.

I like the ostrich better.

I would love the Yanks to pick him up- but the price is too steep. Anything over 3 years for him isn't wise.

As well as another left-handed power bat.

There's something just plain wrong with "if Alex Rodriguez's suspension is upheld, then the club could possibly sign". The Yankees should have to live by their mistakes.

Another T&R from a player's agent. $100 million for McCann? A guy who is clearly in decline?

And the Mauer contract has been an unmitigated disaster for the Twins.
