Diego Sanchez feels he can beat Anthony Pettis

05:14 PM ET 10.16 | Former UFC lightweight contender Diego Sanchez has an opportunity to get right back in the mix on Saturday night with a win over former Strikeforce lightweight champion Gilbert Melendez at UFC 166. If Sanchez can beat Melendez, he will obviously feel that he deserves a crack at current 155-pound king Anthony Pettis, but he also feels that he has what it takes to take down the champ. Sanchez's aggressive style, size and grappling allow him to be a nightmare matchup for Pettis and he voiced that belief in a recent interview. If he could make it a dog fight and wear down the champ, he would have a legitimate shot at winning the belt. However, Pettis would likely keep it at a distance and pick Sanchez apart with his striking. If the fight went to the mat, Pettis' slick bottom game could allow him to pull off the submission win.

Saturday night he was in the best UFC fight I've ever seen.
