Hot seat for Shanahan

07:16 AM ET 10.17 | Where might a dispiriting season leave head coach Mike Shanahan? [Sunday's loss] left Washington with a 1-4 record and ramped up media speculation about whether Shanahan will return next season if the team finishes with its third losing record in four seasons under him. Regardless of how the Redskins fare in their final 11 games, owner Daniel M. Snyder is on the hook to pay Shanahan $7 million during the 2014 season, the last of Shanahan's five-year, $35-million contract. ... It would be surprising if Shanahan agreed to let things play out during a lame-duck season. What's more likely is that Shanahan would push for a new deal in the offseason, forcing Snyder to make a huge decision. For the Redskins' sake, Snyder should either commit to Shanahan beyond next season or fire him with a year left on his contract.

Lots of lame ducks in DC.

Lots of people moving around and trying to look busy but actually not doing a damn thing!

Shanny might be on a slow road to the house... Word.

Better get out before they foolishly change the team name.

Actually, it wouldn't be that foolish. Dropping the "Washington" part and just going with "Redskins" would disconnect them from the embarrassment and low esteem of being associated with that place.

Shanahan is a POS. His son seems to be a raging POS. So glad when Bowlen finally revoked his "Lifetime Contract".

He rode the coat tails of Elway and on accident picked up a running back in the 6th round that happened to be HOF quality in an injury shortened career.

Without Elway and Terrel Davis, the ferret had 1 playoff game in 10 years.

+1!

Watched that show. I can still remember hearing how Brian Griese was going to be the answer. Them, no, it's Jake Plummer. Then Jake wasn't trustworthy, so we had to torpedo him.

I agree. I think though Shanahan and Kubiak were less successful when they were separated.

I would have stated it a bit differently, but the conclusion would have been the same. I like your synopsis more. Just never liked the guy, not sure why, just something there.

His best days are behind him. He and his no coaching son have no clue as to what they are doing. I mean come on London Fletcher as your middle line backer. They are both in it for the money and when they get fired some idiot organization will hire them. I won't get into it but they'll get jobs for one reason and one reason only.

I thank Dan Snyder every week for falling on that sword. I was sweating bullets that Jerry Jones would be the one to eat it on that bozo.
Now if he just stays away from Chuckie Dallas has hope for the future.

I think the trade that landed RGIII (The slew of picks they gave up) and the CAP penalty ($20 Million)this team has incurred for the last two years is what's hurting them right now. Once they get the extra CAP room back and have some additional draft picks I think they'll start looking like a solid contender. They have a lot of aging players on D that need to be replaced and they can't afford to let them walk yet. They should just ride it out for now and actually wait and see what happens next season when they can run like a normal team finally..

Hang in there Mike! There are plenty of QBs out there for you to destroy.

Concur w/50 that I probably wouldn't have phrased it that way, but while he and later Cutler were here, rooted against the broncos on each and every possibility. Shanny is likely the most overrated coach in NFL history.

Word. Chuckie hasn't coached in almost 8 years. Another case of retreads.

Chuckie has never coached, period. He barely has the mental capacity to string together a coherent sentence, let alone coach.
