07:22 AM ET 10.17 | Boston has struggled mightily at the plate against Detroit, and the left side of the infield is in the crosshairs. Red Sox manager John Farrell suggested that, in the aftermath of his team's 7-3 loss to the Tigers in Game 4 of the American League Championship Series, he was considering the possibility of having Xander Bogaerts start in place of either third baseman Will Middlebrooks or shortstop Stephen Drew. ... Drew was 0-for-4 with two strikeouts. He's now 1-for-14 in the series. Middlebrooks was 0-for-2 with a pair of whiffs, and he's now 1-for-10 in the ALCS. "Haven't made a decision on [Thursday's] lineup," Farrell said after the game of the possibility of having Bogaerts start in Game 5. "But given the way the left side of the infield, we're struggling a little bit to get production out of that side."

The national story is that Leyland is a genius because he changed the lineup.

I would say that Detroit looked better because Peavy sucked.

The bright side is that we will not see him again this series.

Kind of a combination of both I'd say.

I'd say put Xander in for Drew because that would be more of a defensive upgrade than taking Middlebrooks out at 3rd. You'd think that Drew could have done something against all these righties, but it hasn't happened.

I give the lineup change minimal impact.

I could have gotten on base against Peavy last night.

I'd put X at third. You expect more bat from 3b than SS and Middlebrooks is not getting it done. Drew is also underrated defensively.

The real story is that Peavy 's walks and Pedroia's inability to cleanly field a double play ball opened the gates to a big inning for Detroit.

Yeah, Pedey shoulda grabbed that one.
I thought Peavy said that Farrell suggested he change his arm slot and he was throwing with more stuff but less control as a result? Maybe they should have left him along...

Whichever way we go, it was a suck inducing performance last night.

Yeah, that bobbled double play ball was a killer.

Yeah - that Detroit pen is on the shaky side.

The Tigers top four pitching rotation is as good as I've seen in over 60 years of watching BB.

Maybe - just maybe - it's the fact that DET has good pitchers; several of them..... Jeesh.....
