Carlyle can't stop worrying (and for good reason)

07:27 AM ET 10.17 | Simple math finds the Maple Leafs on the wrong end of an important number, shots, but not the most important number: wins. "[We've] been fortunate enough to come back and get points, but it's a nervous time in the coach's office, because of the number of shot differential, and the quality of chances that we're giving up," said Leafs coach Randy Carlyle, whose team defeated Minnesota 4-1 Tuesday night while being outshot 37-14. "Obviously, we need to ramp up the quality of our play." ... The morning of the season opener Carlyle told a few reporters he wanted the Leafs to become more of a puck possession team. Has he seen signs of improvement? "Not at all," Carlyle said. "Right now it's one of those things -- when we review and review and review, there's just some areas that we're really absent in."

If Phaneuff was my captain, I'd worry too!

Might help if half your team isn't injured, too. They're starting like 5 rookies a game right now.

Nothing wrong with the rookies. Eakins taught them well. Let's see if he can turn the same trick in Edmonton. ;-)

100% right. Eakins did a fantastic job with the Marlies last year. Once Edmonton gets their goaltending situation in place, they will be OK.

QUOTE(#5):

The shots they are taking are getting into the net so far. Real challenge starts Saturday: Chicago, Anaheim, Columbus, the dreaded Western Canada swing. That should give a much better picture of where the Leafs are, especially with Clarkson coming back, and hopefully JVR and Kulemin too.

a big test, teams that can score and hit. Should be fun to watch though. They sure did a # on the NYR out there

Watch out for Burkie's Cliff.

They used to play Heave Away after wins.

That was great, hearing it 7 times a season.

LMFAO - For those unfamiliar with this little ditty...

Love it. Have no idea when I started listening to Great Big Sea (listening to "Old Brown's Daughter" now). But, I listen to 'em more and more when the Caps revert to 1974-75 status when they were 8-67-5. Here we come again. :-(

West coast trips are always death.

Not to mention a western pre-season, the a plane trip back east for 3 days, then another round of west coast jet setting for 9 days.
