Rangers relationship doomed to fail

07:25 AM ET 10.18 | To some degree, the experiment lasted considerably longer than it could have. One of them had to go. This was not because Nolan Ryan or Jon Daniels dislike one another (they don't) or because any disagreements they had were beyond repair (they weren't). ... That the arrangement lasted for five years was a testament to both. Ryan's resignation Thursday ensured the Texas Rangers wouldn't see a sixth, and it marked the end of a front-office team that rescued the Rangers from bankruptcy and launched them into previously unseen prosperity. Still, everyone in the organization understood a part-time CEO who wants full decision-making authority and a general manager who has earned the right to run his baseball-operations department without oversight could not co-exist with disparate philosophies.

Daniels better have a much more productive offseason than the last one.

When this team was in the morass of the Hicks regime, Ryan was the single credible figure out there. As a Rangers fan, I am and will always be appreciative of what he did to keep this thing from devolving into the mess that was the Rangers of the 70's and 80's.

That said - this is Daniels' team for better or worse. It was time.

I agree and I don't think Ryan was too much involved in decisions going into this past season, which proved to be a mess. They were just horrible offensively. Darvish losing 4 1-0 games was ridiculous. Only the 9th pitcher to have that happen in one season. Here's hoping Daniels makes some really significant upgrades to the offense.

Daniels goes with the kinder, gentler approach for handling pitchers..... Ryan expects them to man up and go deep into games...... the new pansy approach seems to be favored.

Now Ryan needs to go save the Astros.

Sadly, that cannot be done. They should be folded or transferred to AA.

The Astros have the right guy for that. He simply needs time. He built the Cardinals farm system and is the only reason they've been successful the last 3 years.
