Subban on the Olympic bubble

07:32 AM ET 10.18 | Most elite players in contention for an Olympic spot are likely to say they'll stick to playing their games and let the process take care of itself. Montreal Canadiens defenceman P.K. Subban is doing that pretty well. It would seem a bit of a stretch that the reigning Norris Trophy winner would be anything less than one of the top eight defencemen for his country, but that is apparently the situation confronting Subban. Recent chatter about Team Canada's potential depth chart has Subban fighting for his life, if you listen to some. ... But watching Subban Thursday night n the Habs' 5-3 win over the Columbus Blue Jackets -- not to mention so far this season -- it's pretty difficult to imagine leaving him off Team Canada, no?

QUOTE(#2):

Because he can't play defence? He's a wreckless kid who can get you into trouble when you least want it? Because the team needs a couple guys like Niedermayer and Pronger from 4 years ago with experience in these kinds of scenarios?

Because he's another right shot whereas Canada desperately needs lefties, thus the recent chatter about Giordano, and why Bouwmeester is even being considered (and, at this point, Marc Staal).

The last spot for righties is probably between Subban and Letang, with Weber, Doughty and Pietrangelo locks. If Boyle recovers, he probably gets a slot too.

Preach it Brother.

eye injury aside, Staal is easily top 10 in league defensively. He continually shuts down oppositions top lines. I.e. see Ovie

Ignorance is bliss.

And it's only the Limpics anyway.

Makes no never mind to me.

Pretend it's the Canada Cup for a second. Is he on your squad? If so, is Mike Green on your 2010 squad?

You mean ... head-over-hills Mike Green?

QUOTE(#14):

And if it's Weber, Doughty, Pietrangelo and Boyle as the other competing righties, which of those 4 are out of the squad to make way for him?

Current:

PK Chelios 10 points +6
Weber 3 points -3
Doughty 1 point -3
Boyle 2 points +2
Pietrangelo 6 points +4

Never thought much of Boyle so it's either him or Doughty.

Can't lose either way.

There are better defensemen on his own team, why is it so hard for this Sun writer to imagine that there aren't many better ones playing across the league?

Yip, yip, yip....

Chara 3 points, -2

Doughty's going.

Why is he a lock?

He wasn't much last year and has continued this year.

Speaking of over rated....

And looked bad again last night. But they beat Tim Tubness, so BMG can brag. Or can he?
