More money for new WVU staff
Six assistant football coaches under new West Virginia coach Bill Stewart will be paid more than any of the assistants under former coach Rich Rodriguez, according to figures released Friday by the university. Doc Holliday, who left Florida to coach the Mountaineers' tight ends and linebackers and is the recruiting coordinator and associate head coach, will earn $400,000 per year in a guaranteed five-year contract, WVU said.

That's because the filthy greed of Rod has gone to Michigan.

Umm, yea that must be it. Or maybe the administration at WVU knows Stewart is really in over his head so they're trying to build a staff of assts that can run the team by themselves.

Um, no. The admin let Stew pick his own staff, and he did a fine fine job! I'm not a R2 basher, but i'm sold on Stew. Living in W.Va and being a member of "The Blue Lot", I have seen may interviews with the man. He knows his football, period. Throw out his record at VMI, they had just started the program, and it's freggin VMI!! Also, throw out the notion WVU football will fade away, we will be the only ones NOT surprised!

One final comment, Stew looked pretty calm at the Fiesta Bowl if you ask me. Over his head, really?? What he did with those (our) young men after all the fit hit the shan, to keep them together as a family!! The ability to recruit an amazing staff, and retain a more than solid year recruiting wise (per WVU standards). I think his head is well above water! Again......

I hope you're right as Stewart seems like a first rate guy. My post was merely speculation as to why they would spend so much more on assistants than in the past.

I've been very impressed with Coach Stewart, from the bowl game, his picking of his staff, to the way he acts as a person. I think WVU is going do a great job next year and I for one can't wait for some college football!!. Rich who??

I think the main reason they can afford more money is easy to understand:
Former Coach Salary $2Mil per year
New Coach $800K Per year
More money to go around. Plus the old staff was doing ok after Rich got them raises.
Is it fall yet? Man i'm excited!!!
