08:43 AM ET 10.19 | On Friday, the NFL confirmed Jermichael Finley was fined $15,750 for "unnecessarily striking a defenseless player in the head and neck area" in Sunday's 19-17 win at the Baltimore Ravens. Finley said he planned to appeal the fine, which was for a block against Ravens outside linebacker Terrell Suggs on a running play late in the first quarter. On the play, a toss to the right to running back Johnathan Franklin (who was stuffed for a 3-yard loss), Finley motioned next to right tackle Don Barclay just before the snap. As soon as the ball was snapped, Finley leveled Suggs with his left shoulder. "I really don't care about it, but just the fact that if it was a play where I was trying to do it, I'd take the fine," Finley said. "But I won't take it." Shortly after Finley's comments to the media on Friday, he tweeted: Thanks To @NFL For The Fine For Playing Football.

Welcome to the Choirboy league Jermichael.

I hope Suggs isn't hurt, but my sympathy meter is stuck on zero. If you're going to act tough and play tough you should expect the same in return.

Poorly said, bravo.

So he took Suggs out of the play with a hard hit. Isn't that the object of football? Should he have simply touched him on the shoulder pad and sad, "there I touched you, you're not allowed in the play anymore"? Maybe there's something I'm missing, it is ESPN after all.

yep it's becoming an offensive game making it impossible for defenders to tackle and play the way they've been playing for years

I think the writer left, but it sounds like someone else is taking over, but I could be wrong.

As long as they supply my daily dose of scantily clad hotties, it's all good.

Hot Clicks followed the Sports Illistrated business model - garner viewership by using a bikini pic as the clickable link. I don't think many people clicked on the link for the journalism so the journalistic effort is being redirected.

Considering that Finley was hit hard in the head during the Bengals game, he has every right to complain.

October 19, 2013  07:56 PM ET

I hate Finley as a fan, but I think he's right this time, incredibly. Suggs was positioned at the line of scrimmage, wasn't he? How the hell does that count as 'being defenseless'? Newsflash: there's generally going to be contact at the LoS immediately at the snap. If Suggs wasn't ready for it, then more the fool him.

Someone mentioned a year or so ago that the NFL will not exist in 20 years and that person was made fun of .... The statement is not far off to me . The NFL may as well go away it is in love with the idea of going to europe . May as well take the helmets and pads off move to europe and call it futsybol.
thanks roger for destroying the GREATEST league by turning into arena futbol league ..... every rule benefits the offense ... they have went out of the way to overprotect the special qbs made it impossible to play defense and made ignorant rules that protect a little bit more in terms of headshots .... but exposes career ending knee injuries and undermine the credilbilty and fabric of the sport.

well done roger
