RGIII flip-flops on using sideline to draw penalties

09:26 AM ET 10.19 | Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III believes that his comments about trying to bait defenders into penalties for sideline hits were misconstrued. "Some people think I'm aiming to draw penalties and that's not what I said," Griffin told Redskins.com, which sort of makes it a press release. "I was asked about the hits on the sideline and the guys not being afraid to take the 15 yards for unnecessary roughness. "I told them that against the Cowboys, I was just trying to run out of bounds and some guy hit me. Some guys will take that, some guys don't really care. It's just up in the air. Some guys will take the penalty and some won't take the penalty. You've got to use the sideline as your friend. I'm not using the sideline to try and get penalties." But here's what Griffin said on Wednesday: "I think I was trying to draw the penalty on [Lions defensive back] Rashean [Mathis] there and he's a smart player. He didn't hit me. Good for him, move on from that. . . . With Rashean, I kind of stopped well inside inbounds to try to get him to hit me and he didn't. He said, 'I'm not taking that penalty, Griff,' and I said, 'I got you, man.'"

OK so stop talking about it and it will go away.

Well, he's in the right city to flip-flop.

RGIII is playing scared or else he wouldn't worry about hits on the sidelines.

Yeah Bradford is also playing scared, but I believe he is having a better year (stats) then RG. Is this article about Sam Bradford?? :-)

I was just pulling your chain OT!

And ... %$#@ the NFL! I have fond memories of Sam Bradford, DeMarco Murray and Germaine Gresham in Oklahoma uniforms. It's not as much fun watching them toil in the cookie-cutter league.

Shanahan still can't sleep at night over having to take this clown. He wanted Luck so bad. Luck is another Elway...as he's already proving.

Not only does he talk too much, he listens too much.

Stop doing either one or both and the problem is solved.

"Some people think I'm aiming to draw penalties and that's not what I said,,,"

Ah, yes it is. No misconstrue about it at all. Let me refresh your memory.

That's what bothers me lately, especially the receivers, "Throw The Flag" is all you see anymore. And false starts, if the guy can reset, should be no penalty.

Realized the comment didn't go over well, so he's trying to pretend he said something else.

He likes his own voice more than Rick Reilly, Stepen A. Smith and Skip Bayless combined.

It's the Jim Irsay model for PR spin.

Yup, but the way I see it is that his admission is less controversial than his denial. Attempting to draw penalties isn't bad, it's part of the game. Punters do it, QBs do it, RGIIIs do it. Big deal. It's a test of discipline for the defender.

If you don't want to get hit, Slide or Run out of Bounds!!!

He should study how Russell Wilson slides and gets ut of bounds to avoid needless hits.

Good comment my Seahawk friend.
