Will Gary Kubiak lose contract gamble?

08:50 AM ET 10.20 | Two years ago, Texans owner Bob McNair and general manager Rick Smith made a pragmatic decision to stay the course with the team's head coach, maintaining continuity and not succumbing to impatient public pressure to fire Gary Kubiak. Now, with the 2-4 Texans one of most shocking disappointments in the NFL, McNair and Smith find themselves at a critical crossroads regarding what they should do (or not do) about Kubiak. Interestingly, when McNair awarded Smith and Kubiak contract extensions before the 2012 season, he was going to extend them to 2016. Smith signed on through 2016, but Kubiak, perhaps hoping to cash in again with success leverage, opted for a shorter contract and only signed through 2014. Now, with Matt Schaub's future seemingly in question, you have to wonder whether it will be Kubiak picking and grooming the next franchise quarterback.

Right now the Texans have the #1 defense and the #7 offense in the league. They should be 6-0. I don't get it.

#1 D for yards. They're last in points given up. Pick-6's have a hand in that.

Sumlin jumps to the NFL, Kubiak goes home to the Agies.

There was a great article about how the great coaches shine in the moments when everything goes wrong. They know how to make the adjustments, they know to instill confidence and to push their team to play up. This team has been playing down for the last four or five years. They have had the talent, but the coaching is suspect. I even give Schaub more credit than most, I know he isn't elite and I don't see him ever getting there, but with the offensive weapons they have, they should be able to win.

Well, the dice definitely aren't rolling his way.

If you watched today's game against KC you'd get it. And KC does not look that great for an undefeated team..

And to answer the headline question. Yes.

Tim Tebow is still out there and I'm certain that he is available!

Kub's has had a long chance. He knows the writing is on the wall. I don't know about Sumlin, also don't know about Kubiak going to Texas. He had multiple interviews with CU and walked away. I don't know if he wants to recruit and fundraise. There are some talented OC's and DC's that are ready to make the next step and I see them as a much better fit than a college coach. Especially a college coach who has really only won with Johnny Football and done a crap job of keeping the kid reigned in.

Wade Phillips. Already there, already knows the defense, already been a head coach. Not a great one, but still probably less of a gamble than a college coach somewhere.
