Young blasts Clippers 'disrespectful' decision

07:19 AM ET 10.21 | Former Clipper and Los Angeles native Nick Young is no fan of the Clippers' initiative, led by Doc Rivers, to cover up the Lakers' championship banners and retired uniforms during Clippers home games. "He can do that?" Young said after Lakers practice Sunday, the team's first since returning from China. "For real? That's disrespectful. We got to talk to Doc. He can't have that." ... The Clippers revealed their Staples Center redecoration during a preseason game Friday, as they plastered giant posters of players Chris Paul, Blake Griffin, DeAndre Jordan, Jamal Crawford, Matt Barnes, Jared Dudley and J.J. Redick over the Lakers' 16 championship banners and 10 retired uniforms. "That's a lot of pull y'all are giving Doc," Young said, somewhat facetiously. "I think he shouldn't come in and have so much pull."

Good one Nick. Do you think the fans and the organization feel the same way as you? It's their house too. Now if they did that during a Laker game than it would be a big problem. That would be really disrespectful.

It's not called Laker Arena. Lakers banners should not be hanging during Clippers' home games, especially against the Lakers.

Good morning everyone. I am not sure what the problem is here...weren't the Lakers out of town?

Why would you say that???? Nick Young has an opinion just like you do. "IMO" Young is correct. The Clipps should worry about winning a NBA title instead of covering up banners of great Laker players and Laker's "NBA champship banners". If the Clippers want to cover up those banners, then so be it, but Nick Young can speak his own mind on this issue.

Doc is right on this one Nick. Last time I looked it said Staple Center home to the Clippers and Lakers, not just the Lakers. You had your run with the Clippers now make the best of your stay with the Lakers, which is Kobe's team.

October 21, 2013  09:27 AM ET

Doc can do what he wants during Clippers home game, I'm okay with it. I believe he said it's for motivation (?).

Anyway, it doesn't diminish what those banners stand for. I don't see them daily but am still a fan of a 16 time NBA Champion.

October 21, 2013  10:00 AM ET

I get where doc is coming from, but if you don't like laker geAr don't play in the lakers arena. If they really want all that, they can build an arena of their own. I doubt they ever would since sterling is notoriously one of the cheapest owners in all of pro sports.

I dunno, I hate when teams share arenas and stadiums anyway. The nyg/nyj are another example. Build your own arena if you want total control.

Exactly!

Staples Center + Clippers Home Game = Clippers' Stadium.

If they want to cover up those banners during THEIR home games, they are well within right to do so. For 41 games (plus playoffs), that's their house!

LA Will Always Be A Laker Town, Bro.

Maybe, if Nick had been a Laker for longer than 5 minutes.....Kobe or Pau want to say something that is fine.....but not a guy picked up in the summer.....c'mon man

If Doc is only doing this during Clipper home games, why would Nick or anyone else care. Unless he's attending Clipper games, he'll probably never see them.

I agree with you bro. I'm wondering why the question wasn't asked to the vets on the team. Did the reporter figure their answers would be "no problem" and decided to ask someone that should not be a spokesman, especially this young in his team tenure.

I'm thinking this is all related to the 1st game of the season. The Clippers play the Lakers but they have their own division banner to put up. Rather than have it look silly next to the Lakers banners they will just cover the Lakers banners for now.

Valid point.

+1.

I understand having an opinion, but Nick needs a reality check.

Why are we listening to Nick Young? And why is MMA sporting a Bynum avatar
