Women's game on trial in Sochi

07:29 AM ET 10.23 | Since its Olympic inception, women's ice hockey has generally been a showcase for two countries. Sooner or later, the International Olympic Committee is going to pull the plug on women's ice hockey and that day may come sooner than later. In fact, it may happen after the Sochi Games. And frankly, that's probably the right move, which is not a shot at the tens of thousands of women and girls who play hockey in Canada and the U.S. It's just the sad reality of the sport. Women's ice hockey is a two-horse race, and it's been that way for far too long with no end in sight. Women's ice hockey was added to the Olympic program for the 1998 Nagano Olympics in the hopes that eventually the traditional powerhouses in ice hockey would catch up to Canada at the U.S. That never materialized.

If a sport needs to be competitive among more than 2 countries, there is a whole lotta 'Lympic events that gotta go.

Starting with the 100 metre dash. Doesn't Jamaica (and their juicers) own that event?

The International O-lame-pic Committee sure never gave a rats arse when it was a two horse race between juiced up East German women and the doping Russians, did they?

Loggers atart their days early.

I do get my 1' 15" lunch/swim break and I leave usually before 4PM most days.

Home in time for all game starts.

The only good thing I'll say about women's hockey is that it is at least decided by actual goals.

Not some arbitrary judges decision about which "jump" looked better.

Other than that I couldn't give a monkey's.....

Would the 2 man Luge not pip the biathlon?

Frankly I'm offended they felt justified in putting a Limpic Women's Hockey thread in THE NHL SECTION.......

Nothing could possibly be farther removed.
