Nicks lands in a Big Blue doghouse

07:13 AM ET 10.24 | Tom Coughlin sees what just about everyone else sees when it comes to Hakeem Nicks. [Though] Coughlin hasn't sat down to talk with his 25-year-old receiver about it, after his disappointing two-catch, three-drop performance on Monday night against the Vikings, he's pretty sure Nicks sees it, too. "The competitor that he is, he's very much aware," Coughlin said on Wednesday. ... Several NFL sources projected he'd ask -- and likely get -- a deal worth more than $11 million per year. Now? That will be hard to justify because even Coughlin admits Nicks' reliability is startlingly low. "You've got to get to the point where the reliability factor is there as strongly as it always has been," Coughlin said. "Has it been there up to this point? No. But we're saying 'Let's get back to work and get this done.'"

Hands of stone........tough to shake that rep.

When he let a sure TD pass slip through his hands in the right corner of the end zone Monday night, I yelled so loud that my wife jumped off her chair and left the room in a huff. Nicks looks overweight and sluggish, physically and mentally. With the size of his hands, he should be catching everything close to him.

Hakeem...sounds like you are clearing your throat...

October 24, 2013  09:00 AM ET

His stock is dropping as fast as Enron.

In fairness to Nicks, it is not a dog house Tom has with this team, it is a dog pound, and all cages are filled. He will never see $11 million a year from the Giants. Will not happen, and that is the tag number for a WR next year. That will not happen either.

October 24, 2013  10:39 AM ET

Between the fragile body and the dropped passes, this will not be good for The Giants or Hakeem!

October 24, 2013  11:20 AM ET

Thank you Coughlin, this jackwagon was my #2 WR and has played like a piece of crap.

October 24, 2013  11:35 AM ET

This guy is just like his QB, vastly over-rated.

Way too late.
Maybe a conditional 4th is all he's worth right now.

Once more: If/when another team signs him as a free agent the Giants will receive a conditional third round pick for him in next years draft. There is no use in trading him for a fourth or lower pick. Not going to happen.

Gmen only get a conditional 3rd if they spend no money in FA this offseason...and it would be for 2015 draft anyway

Dids't thou forget JPP? Some team may just go crazy for him too. You add up one side and subtract the other and it is a wash. so says I. Point is. They will not trade him. Write it down....

People give up so quickly on these guys. Bottom line - yes, Nicks is not having a good year. But this disaster of a season is square on Manning as he looks more confused than ever. Their offense may be predictable but 15 INT's?

October 24, 2013  04:49 PM ET

Things can change rather quickly. Everyone said Gates was done and look at him now- he's tearing it up. Same for Desean Jackson- he had been bad for several years- and bam! Now he's near the top of the league at his position in all catagories. Nicks very well could be back in top form again in the right situation. Wouldn't surprise me at all. He is a top talent at his best.

This guy is just playing the game: not getting that big contract your agent is itching for and that pay day, then start sucking and force the team to trade you, new contract agent gets his payday.
