Urlacher suggests Bears lineup change

07:13 AM ET 10.24 | As a longtime linebacker in Chicago, Brian Urlacher knows a thing or two about the position, and he might know a Bears player who would fit there. Urlacher spoke Monday on "The Waddle & Silvy Show" and believes that defensive end Shea McClellin should be moved back to a two-point stance on the outside. "He's definitely a good athlete," Urlacher said. "He gets off the football. He can run. He can hit, and all that good stuff. But I see him maybe as a Sam linebacker, a 3-4 outside guy the more I watch him play. The more you watch him play, he's built for the outside linebacker position, I think." With Lance Briggs out four to six weeks, maybe now was the time for Urlacher to share his thoughts on the former first-round pick in 2012. "I think he's athletic enough to [move to the middle], no doubt."

Is Urslacker saying he can play.......

October 24, 2013  08:15 AM ET

Their defense is toast right now due to injuries; they have a bye week to make more adjustments and tinker with the line-up... it???s not what any coach would probably want to hear from a former player, but why not try it? Right now, they don???t have much more to lose, especially with Briggs gone for the next five weeks.

If I were the Bears GM, I'd be considering it.

But then again, with Cutler likely out for the season, why bother? They will be better off with an earlier draft choice.

Things are imploding so fast in Chicago a black hole is forming.

Bears play 4-3 and Urlacher's advocating for a complete re-scheming of the defense to 3-4. McClellan should be in the latter cause he is no down-lineman. What he says makes sense, but can't be really be done in mid-season. As for Urlacher returning, Emery slammed the door on that responding to a direct question and saying that the likelihood was "nil." (Got the feeling Emery is a little sore at old Brian.)

They need healthy bodies on D. I'll step up and sign a contract for the rest of the season. I'm that kinda guy.

Theoretically.

Who cares what he has to say. He was cut from the team and he still feels that he is still part of the team and he wants his name to be still in the news. Just go back to New Mexico and shut up!

Glad to hear that, Urlacher blew it for himself and I don't miss his injury-laden story on the team. Anyone else chuckle over Brian now making money through the same Chicago media that he hated so much that he stopped talking to them for a year?

Wasn't cut. Just wasn't re-signed after his contract was up. Bears offered, he was insulted, Bears retracted the offer, no other team offered anything to the very slowed down Brian, Brian hates Emery, Emery hates Brian. End of story.

Just NFL PR nonsense to be laid out there during the world series. They are masters of it.
