No deal for Ubaldo?

07:31 AM ET 10.25 | While the World Series rolls out of Boston and heads for St. Louis, baseball matters haven't ceased in North America. [The] business of the game never stops, which brings us to Ubaldo Jimenez and the Indians. The situation about to unfold follows a fairly logical path. The Indians will pick up his $8 million club option for 2014 after the completion of the World Series. After the way he pitched in the second half, especially in September, the decision was made for them. Jimenez and his agents will decline the option. ... There is no chance that the Indians offer Jimenez a multiyear deal. All thoughts of that were washed away when the Giants signed Tim Lincecum earlier this week to a two-year, $35 million deal. Jimenez and Lincecum, each 29, would have entered this winter's free agent class together.

I don't believe the Lincecum deal will affect he market at all. It's an insane outlier.

Agreed...Ubaldo didn't win Cy Youngs or pitch no hitters for Cleveland, the Freak deal is really a sentimental mistake. I could understand it if 75% of Tim's deal was incentives...

The Tribe biggest weakness is starting pitching, so offer Ubaldo the contract for 14, if he takes it great for you, if not a draft pick will be coming, and take that money and invest in another starting pitcher.

Half of a season doesn't quite make a believer out of me but he was awfully good down the stretch. I would just hate to see them overpay and then have him go in the dumper again. Maybe I've just been a Cleveland fan for too long.

I'm not sure how Lincecum got 35 million for two years but seems like it would involve holding a loaded pistol to somebody's head. He's had a few nice outings but for the most part has been ineffective and inconsistent. If he was going to right the ship he would have done so already.

Exactly. He's had 1/2 good season in the entire time he has been here. Stick with the club option offer or let him walk.
