07:35 AM ET 10.25 | Through seven games, a redshirt seemed likely for freshman Dee Liner. Alabama coach Nick Saban, however, said the Muscle Shoals product will likely take the redshirt off Saturday against Tennessee. "We weren't going to play Dee Liner," Saban said on his weekly radio show Thursday evening. ... This was all part of Saban's spirited discussion of redshirt regulations. "I hate this rule," Saban said. "If a guy plays in one play in one game, you cannot redshirt him. It has to be total abstinence from playing the whole season. I wish they'd make a rule where a player could play, like for a medical (redshirt), if you play in less than half of the games in the first half of the season, you can still get your year back. ... I wish they'd do the same thing for freshman."

"I wish I could play guys for five seasons not four".
Isn't that what he's saying?

Six, with the medical redshirt judiciously employed.

yeah, I guess the 5-7 on Med RS and the 5-7 he parks in local JC's isn't enough to stock the shelves for him

Injured Reserve and the practice squads need to be expanded, dammit

I know. Lets drop the whole " Red Shirt " facade to begin with for everybody. Just a loophole that is pure BS....There problem solved.

LOL, Saban sounds like a big cry baby in this article. He knows the rules about red shirt freshmen. Why does he even open his mouth. Actually I have always thought of Saban as a class act, but when he whines about the HUNH and the red shirt freshmen rule, then IMO he is going too far. USC won't play Max Browne even "one play" this year, as they want to keep his red shirt freshman eligibility.
