Oliver Luck likely top Texas AD candidate

08:48 AM ET 10.26 | From the outside, the Texas hunt for a new athletic director has turned from a nationwide search to a pursuit of former NFL quarterbacks -- with UT law degrees -- who currently live in West Virginia. Even before DeLoss Dodds officially announced his pending retirement, West Virginia athletic director Oliver Luck was perceived as the logical replacement. Nothing has changed since Dodd's announcement on Sept. 30. Some top candidates, like Big 12 commissioner Bob Bowlsby and Notre Dame athletic director Jack Swarbrick, are locked into very good jobs. For his part, Luck hasn't embraced Texas, but neither has he ruled it out or talked about how great his job is at West Virginia.

We knew this 4 weeks ago.

Where's a football thread?

October 26, 2013  09:14 AM ET

I call BS on this one. I thought they want a Corporate/Business type guy.

But, maybe I was wrong and they actually want someone that will like winning as well as revenue generation.

LOL because he's won so much at WVU!

October 26, 2013  09:34 AM ET

WVU went 7-6 (4-5) last year, while having hot shot Geno Smith as their QB. I believe they are 3-4 this year with an angry fan base. I do not think WVU will shed too many tears if he goes to Texas.

The New River Base Jumpers drew a bigger and more enthusiastic crowd last week than the football team.

Good point. Couch burners haven't competed very well in anything in the Big 12. Louisville would have been a better addition.

But DeLoss doesn't have a very good record of winning lately in the big sports either.

People are focusing on how bad football has been, but men's and women's hoops has been really pathetic recently. Worse than football IMHO.

October 26, 2013  09:43 AM ET

Last year his " employment agreement" was extended at WVU through 2017. Just sayin' Not sure how that works out.

I've lost so much interest in men's CBB it's to the point I really don't care anymore. I have little desire to watch a player devote 1 year of loyalty to the university.

Guido put it best the other day when he referred to it as "a disaster of a AAU bribefest that has as ruined what was once a great game."

Our societal BS that says "he need to get paid" is ruining all college sports it just came quicker to basketball.
