Maturity, preparation behind Cam Newton's improvement

08:37 AM ET 10.27 | There have always been insinuations that Cam Newton needed to improve his work habits. Even some of his staunchest supporters in his hometown of Atlanta, where I live, privately hinted that Newton needed to buckle down and spend more time in film study. Team sources concede he's done just that, and that, despite the "Superman" act that was on display again Thursday, he's significantly matured.

or that they've played a grand total of ONE good team this year?

The four teams they beat this year have a combined record of 5-21. It really should not be news that a NFL QB is preparing for games. Unless he did not in the past.

Yay, Cam has finally reached the maturity level of next year's draft class.

Their next three games are against the Falcons, 49ers and Pats... and they still have their games against the Saints awaiting them. We'll know before too much longer whether or not the Panthers are that good.

The article speaks of his maturation yet still talks about him rolling out his Superman schtick.

As many mentioned, he just finished a slump buster stretch of schedule, let's revisit his maturity in mid-November.

Oh yes we will and my guess is that they MAY beat the Falcons; that's it.

Beat New Orleans... then check back with me.

And it's Carolina's fault they have a soft schedule?

C'mon, man!!!!

Looking at their 2nd half schedule they'll probably finish 6-10.

It's rather brutal.

Geez the media keeps trying to make a superstar out of this guy. He's had a few good games this year. Someone alert Canton to get a statue ready.

October 27, 2013  11:28 AM ET

He's starting to look like the kid who played in college, he looks a lot more comfortable and hopefully with a little bit of LUCK, they will make the Playoffs!

Will probably beat the Pats as well. All the injuries may have finally done NE in.

If anything the media scrutinizes this guy. He's consistently placed under the likes of RGIII, Kap and Russel Wilson (I'm not saying he's better than them). The media is the reason why you see all of these comments like "Cam has finally reached the maturity level of next year's draft class." He gets no respect and it's all because of the "towel over the head" (which he does regardless of the score) and the general dislike of Cam within the media, especially ESPN, where RGIII remains the greatest QB to ever play the game. If anything, the media tells the truth about Cam: that he's taken strides throughout the year and has been leaps and bounds better than his first two years.

Whatever works. Improvement is improvement.
