Could Cowboys make move for Jared Allen?

06:36 PM ET 10.28 | On Sunday morning, it was initially reported that Minnesota Vikings five-time Pro Bowler Jared Allen could be on his way out of town before the NFL trade deadline on Tuesday at 4 p.m. ET. The Vikings sit at 1-6, so they could be looking to part ways with one of the most valuable assets on their team, especially if it means getting at least a third-round pick in return so they can begin their rebuilding process. One team that would be an obvious fit for Allen is the Dallas Cowboys, who are always looking to make a splash and improve their team. Some late heartbreaking losses have hurt the team's record and they have had plenty of injuries along the defensive line, including placing Anthony Spencer on the injured reserve list, so adding Allen to play opposite DeMarcus Ware could be one of the most dangerous pass rushing duos in the league outside of Kansas City. If the Cowboys wanted to bring in Allen, they would need to part ways with a premium draft pick, but perhaps they could add in wide receiver Miles Austin who doesn't appear to be in their future plans, thanks to the emergence of rookie Terrence Williams.

$2M under the cap.

Good luck with all that.

Pats are a better fit. But they'd probably get a third rounder when he leaves as a FA anyway, and I do see either Dallas or Hoodie giving up a 3rd rounder right now.

NFL teams shouldn't bother trading for aging vets these days. The salary cap can get tight in a hurry and draft picks tend to be more valuable in the long run anyway.

And Dallas, in particular, should absolutely not be trading draft picks for highly compensated vets at any time in the near future. Cowboys are allegedly gonna be 31 million bucks over the cap next year as is; they certainly don't need to be considering adding salary right now.

Which probably means JJ is about two seconds away from announcing some stupid blockbuster trade.

Love to see it but the Pats just signed Andre Carter.

I think they and others have passed on him already. My take, Spielman tried to peddle him last week via feelers he was available and either no interest or his price, a number two pick, was too high. Ziggy said they would not be trading him so he knew already the market was dead. I think today is dead too.

Schefter tweeted that Seattle offered a third. Considering Allen would garner a fifth on the compensatory draft, it may happen, but I still doubt it.

One team that would be an obvious fit for Allen is the Dallas Cowboys -- ya' right ... and after this deal Missy Brady will go to the Vi-Queens ...

Jones could offer up the large screen monitors in the stadium for leverage.
