Fitzgerald a Cardinal for life?

07:08 AM ET 10.29 | If it's up to the Cardinals, receiver Larry Fitzgerald will never play a down for another franchise. That's what General Manager Steve Keim said this morning on his weekly appearance on the "Doug and Wolf Show" on Arizona Sports 620. "I can tell you two things, and I want to make this clear and simple," Keim said. "I have not had one conversation with another NFL team regarding a trade with Larry Fitzgerald. "Number two, starting with Michael Bidwill down, it is our intent for Larry Fitzgerald to retire a Cardinal, period. If there was any gray area there guys, let me know, and we'll get it out." Trading Fitzgerald has been a frequent subject for speculation and rumor. The numbers, however, make it difficult to do. The Cardinals would take a cap charge of $10 million if they traded Fitzgerald.

a HUGE waste of talent. Imagine too if he had a real QB throwing to him.

I feel bad for the guy.

At least he got to play in a Super Bowl.

He probably could have been one of the best ever.

With Michael running the team, there is a lot more focus to getting better. They need to fix the QB position, and to do that they need Fitz. How they go about fixing the QB position will be key.

Pope Larry the First. Has a nice ring to it. The only ring he'll ever get if he stays in Arizona.

Other teams might have a hard time paying him with their cap isses.

October 29, 2013  09:42 AM ET

Any team that pays any player who does not play QB the kind of money they pay Fitzgerald has no complaint. And neither does said player.

Tsk, tsk, tsk. I hate to see someone throw there life away like that.

He signed a $128 MILLION contract in 2011. $50 million guaranteed. No tears for the guy. He chose money over building a team. Fine if you are a QB. Really, how can anyone feel sorry for the guy? Or his team?

October 29, 2013  10:09 AM ET

Translation: We'd love to trade him so he has a chance at a ring and we can start gathering draft choices but we made a massive mistake giving him elite QB money and hopefully Fitz agrees to restructure his contract or else we're stuck with each other.

Yeah. It's almost like being a backup QB. He gets a ton of money, and really, there's no pressure. He may never play in another playoff game in his career. And when he retires, he'll be rich, rich, RICH!

That is what I see. He gets more than Brady for Petes sake. And as you say , no pressure, only sympathy....

Sort of sounds like a prison sentence...

I think that if a GM makes a statement like that then it is a good indication that Fitzgerald likes Arizona.

If you were to look at his productiveness this season and the amount of money Arizona is paying him then maybe life means ( next contract ).

He would look good in Bengals uniform opposite A.J. Green.
