07:10 AM ET 10.29 | A week ago the Bears said that Jay Cutler, who on Monday looked like a guy on the road to recovery, would be out at least four weeks. Cutler, however, told [Marc Trestman] he would be back sooner, ESPN reported last week. Receiver Brandon Marshall was even more specific with his optimism Monday when he filled in for Cutler on "The Jay Cutler Show" on WMVP-AM 1000. "Definitely, worst-case scenario, he'll be back for the Lions" game Nov. 10, Marshall said. Trestman on Monday did not deny the ESPN report, but he downplayed the possibility that Cutler is pushing to beat the timetable. "He wants to get back as soon as he can," Trestman said. "That's all I can really say, but we've got to stay in line with what the doctors have said, and if it's better than that, we certainly would be happy about that."

Cold water thrown on Cutler's return

I'm thinking a warm, yellow liquid would be more appropriate.

There are even more bodily fluids to use here.

the bears are getting a chance to see what backups can do. if backups perform well an move the chains well with running game and accurate passing ,and receivers actually catching passes. This could tell the bears just how important it is to get Cutler back.

And every loss will point out how truly behind the 8 ball the Bears are with Cutler. He's in the last year of his contract, he's 30 years old, he's going to want huge guaranteed money for many years, and they have no one to back him up.

And to make it all just so much worse, he's not even that good, and it's getting hard for him to stay on the field.

Good analysis.

Nevertheless, several QB-needy teams would love to be in that situation.

This puts the Eagles ahead of the curve, we have two hurt QBs, they only have one

So, what are you saying then?

Let the Bears get rid of him ... the Jets need a qb ;)
