07:21 AM ET 10.29 | Veteran Paul Konerko said he didn't know much about new Sox slugger Jose Abreu, but Chicago will learn more soon. The news of Abreu's reported six-year, $68 million deal with the Sox leaked Oct. 17, but his signing was pending a physical. Konerko, who will be a free agent this offseason, also said he doesn't know what the signing means for his future with the Sox. The first baseman/designated hitter said at the end of the season he needed a month to decide whether he would retire or return for a 16th and final season with the Sox. The club has first baseman/designated hitter Adam Dunn signed for $15 million next season. "I guess I really don't know what the story is behind that," Konerko said. "I'll meet with them (to find out)."

Paul's OPS+ was 80 last season, I'd say the ChiSox would be morons to bring him back as anything but a coach. Thanks for the long service, Paul, you'll always be in the hearts of Chicago fans (even Cubs fans).

Stick a fork in him ...

If Abreu lives up to billing and the money the ChiSox invested in him, there would be no need for two other 1B/DH. Konerko seems to be the odd man out and probably will not be resigned. Unless anther tem shows interest in him he may retire. The Yankees are always looking for a player in late 30s. Not knowing if Texera will be able to return, there may be an opening at 1B.

Reinsdorf loves Konerko and they are neighbors in Arizona. It seems surprising that he didn't let Konerko know this was going to happen.
Maybe Reinsdorf has instructed Ken Williams or Rick Hahn to try real hard to trade Dunn.
Short of that, Konerko would appear to be the odd man out.

I don't see Konerko going east coast or even midwest, if for some reason, Arizona, Dodgers, Rangers or Angels showed interest, maybe.

He will be missed.

come to Oaktown Paul, play for a perennial winner. 6 World Series apperances in the past 40 years, that's 15% over the time span. 14 playoff apperances in the same span, that's 35% over the time span. We can use your power in the DH slot with some playing time at 1st.
