Sumlin wants another Aggie in Heisman conversation

07:29 AM ET 10.30 | Texas A&M coach Kevin Sumlin took the occasion of a weekly news conference to drum up some Heisman Trophy chatter for one of his players. It wasn't quarterback Johnny Manziel, the reigning Heisman winner who may at least have a shot at making it two in a row. No, Sumlin said he was "puzzled" why he doesn't hear receiver Mike Evans' name mentioned in the Heisman ****-chat. "He's as good as a player as there is in the country," Sumlin said. "And people say, 'Well, can you have two guys do that?' It wouldn't be the first time." Sumlin noted that he was an assistant at Oklahoma in 2004 when Sooners running back Adrian Peterson and OU quarterback Jason White finished second and third in the Heisman voting and both attended the ceremony in New York. Southern Cal quarterback Matt Leinart won.

It would be nice to see, but WR generally don't get the hype that QBs do, and there are too many good QBs out there this season. He'll have to settle for a Belitnikoff.

Sad but true...

The shame is that week after week you hear announcers talk about how Evans is a beast and can't be covered - yet he doesn't get a blip in the Heisman discussion.

I guess he'll just have to take that chip on his shoulder to a big payday soon.

Agree. Evans would definitely be deserving. Just can't see him getting the votes.

The Heisman is Mariotta's to lose ... to ESPN's new lovechild Winston. Unfortunately no one else has a shot. The media outlets would have to lay on the hype in order for a great player like Evans to have a chance. Shame.

There are plenty of deserving candidates that have earned my respect but the Heisman has been reduced to a glorified ESPY award.

Will agree, he is the most valuable on that team this year

Well if he gets a mention, then the two WRs just up the road at Baylor should get a mention as well...Reese and Goodley.

Poor Sumlin, he has 2 threats on offense and thinks they both deserve heisman talk.

Evans makes JFF scrambles look good because he just heaves it in the air and hopes the big bodied WR can find it.
