Lurie demanding a difference-maker QB

07:22 AM ET 11.01 | Chip Kelly waited about as long as he could to make a quarterback decision, and, when he did this past September, he had the backing of the man who hired him. Jeffrey Lurie, the Eagles' longtime chairman, is still supportive of his first-year coach's decision to go ahead with the 33-year-old Vick, despite the quarterback's age, track record of injuries and recent struggles. But he also believes the team's top priority going forward is finding the next young franchise quarterback to pair with Kelly. ... "We need someone to step up, whether it's an existing young quarterback or somebody we go out and acquire," Lurie said in an exclusive interview with CSNPhilly.com. "We know -- this is no secret -- quarterback is the [ultimate] position and the most important difference-maker."

If Lurie thinks Kelly is going to be around for a while, he is another delusional owner.

He already has "difference making" qarterbacks. It may not be the difference he wants, but, still...

I've been really impressed with the number of college quarterbacks who have recently entered the NFL and made an impact from Year 1.

The kids seem to acclimate to the big leagues a lot faster than they did a decade ago.

Just use your first round pick on a QB (you'll have decent enough draft position). Worst case scenario you draft a bust and you stink as much as you do now. And it doesn't really matter what else you do until then.

Diference making QB........Don't ever team want one of those?

It makes no-deference at all really.

It suits me just fine...

They are about to tank for Johny Manziel.

I think you're right, but it's going to be tough. Tampa and Jacksonville are going to be hard to move out of those first 2 positions.

Even if they get Manziel I don't think he's gonna be that good.

Sink or swim is the current expectation. Ten or fifteen years ago the expectation was that if you drafted a franchise QB hopeful he would learn the NFL game for at least a year from the sideline and in practice before being put into a game for anything greater than mop up opportunities. Perhaps if the season fell apart, you would put an exceptional rookie in around week 8.

I have watched all of Manziel's games and he is the real deal in college and if he comes out in the next draft he'll be the #1 pick. That doesn't mean CK's system will work any better. CK's system worked well for 1 half of 1 game, otherwise they've looked pretty average. It has also put 2 pretty good QB's on the injury report with regularity.

Sounds like Lurie is running out of patience already.

Well at least he got rid of that fat bum as coach. Andy Reid is terrible, look at what he's doing to Kansas City. Wait . . . . . ummmmmm . . . . never mind.

he may have a decent career (maybe like Flutie) but certainly not anything close to a HOF one.
