07:27 AM ET 11.01 | Brian Cashman knows the feeling in which Boston GM Ben Cherington is now reveling. "It's pride," Cashman said. "It's immense pride and rightfully so." But Cashman, the Yanks' GM, also knows that Cherington's about to find out how quickly the reality of the off-season replaces October euphoria. "As GM, you don't have time to enjoy it long," Cashman said. "The work starts again right away." Here's an example: Asked if he were planning to congratulate his rival by phone, Cashman said, "I'll see him in about a week at the GM meetings (which start Nov. 11). I can tell him then." Cashman said he had sent Cherington a text before the World Series started "that I was rooting for them and thought they were the team to beat." Added Cashman: "They did a tremendous job with everything they approached from last winter."
