11:01 AM ET 11.03 | While decisions about re-signing free agents -- center fielder Jacoby Ellsbury, first baseman Mike Napoli, shortstop Stephen Drew and catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia -- are looming even as the Red Sox continue to celebrate beating the St. Louis Cardinals in six games, how they handle Jon Lester is no less complicated. Will they make a long-term commitment similar to the eight-year, $110 million extension they gave to second baseman Dustin Pedroia over the summer? Or will they thank Lester for his service and let him walk away after next season? According to a major league source, the Red Sox have not yet broached the topic with Lester. But chances are, they will -- and sooner rather than later.

He was money in the post season. They'd be foolish not to try to lock him down.

I can see them offering a 5 year extension at around $80M. Lester is a pretty down to earth guy, who would most likely take the security.

Agree, he's looking like a man that will hold up physically for a while, and he can pitch!

He turns 30 in January. They shouldn't do anything much more than five years.

Makes sense, but they will probably have to dig deep to keep him off the FA market.
Who's his agent?

I agree with this. No way they let him walk or trade him after what he accomplished this postseason.
