05:17 PM ET 11.03 | The marriage between the St. Louis Cardinals and Carlos Beltran might be coming to an end in the near future, but the team plans to cover all bases when it comes to potentially losing their slugger as it's expected they will offer Beltran a one-year qualifying offer. It was mentioned on Saturday that Beltran returning to St. Louis was looking somewhat unlikely, but the qualifying offer may change that a bit.

They should.

I think they should. This isn't a situation like Kyle Lohse last year, where they didn't want him to take the offer. They made it knowing he was unlikely to take it.

With Beltran, I think they'd love to have him back on a one year deal, so there is little risk in making the offer. If he gets a longer term deal that he takes somewhere else, they'll just take the compensation pick.

Of course they'll give him a qualifying offer. He's probably going to the Yankees.

Yeah, this only makes sense. They'd love to have him back for one year at that price, and they get a pick if he leaves...the Cards have nothing to lose.

I think he'll leave because he wants a multi year deal. It's best for the team that they keep their mantra of it being better to let them go a year too early than to keep them a year too long.

Mo made some blunders in his WS roster, but this is a no-brainer trying to bring back number 3 for 14. My question to Carlos is - at his age which team has a better chance of winning it all in 14 or 15 the Cards or Yanks?

He would probably extend his career by moving to the AL. I look for it to happen. The Cardinals have no interest in bringing Beltran back on anything longer than one year.

I still don't see the blunders on the WS roster. Yes two pitchers weren't used. That could have easily changed if Boston had jumped on some of the starters early or with an injury. Those guys were more valuable as insurance than adding additional weak hitters to the bench.

Yes he wants to win it all - but at some point having ~25-50% of his AB at DH will make a lot of sense. I think he will end up in the AL. Almost signed with the Yankees back when he signed with the Mets. Also I have to believe at some point he starts to think about the Hall of Fame. He has a real shot but only if he puts numbers up next 3-5 years (yes i said 5 - he is 36 - its possible) I doubt it will happen but i would love to see him got to Kansas City (where he started and won ROY award). Team needs another bat and for 3 years and $45mm he would play RF with Alex Gordon in LF and Lorenzo Cain in CF. He would be incredible in helping that team develop and win.
