07:19 AM ET 11.04 | It is through one of the more delicate stories to this point of the season that Miami finds itself in the spotlight. Jonathan Martin's representatives have notified the Dolphins about allegations of player misconduct within the locker room, spurring the team to ask the NFL to launch an independent inquiry late Sunday. ... The latest twist: Young Dolphins players are under pressure to dig deep into their pockets to pay for veterans' social outings, a phenomenon that has put strain on their finances and locker room chemistry, according to a source with direct knowledge of the situation. One young defensive player, whose privacy the Miami Herald is protecting, is on his way to going broke because he has been unable to say no to the older players, the source said.

Isn't this something that goes on in every locker room to some extent? Maybe not to this extreme but not too far off either.

I think every team does it to some extent, but and it was probably a bit more fair when rookies signed huge contracts when they were drafted. But they don't get those contracts any more. Bringing donuts to meetings and carrying pads and helmets is one thing, having to pay for trips to Las Vegas is something else again.

Apparently Richie Incognito and friends expected Martin to pay $15,000 for a trip to Vegas. Best part is Martin didn't even get to go........

Incognito has been indefinitely suspended, so it sounds like they are on their way to resolving this.

"Good fun" in the wrong hands...

This isn't going to help Philbin... gives the impression that he has a zoo going on in his locker room and he has no control over it.

He does seem out of touch with the whole situation. Then again, this isn't college.

Yeah. The vets don't seem to have caught on to the fact that rookie contracts ain't what they used to be.

"Hey, rookie, let me borrow your wife tonight, OK?"

I don't understand why players don't take the Dez Bryant approach and just say, "No, I'm not paying that."

Where's the real leadership in the locker room to self-police this crap?

It's how a team starts out 3-0 and ends up 4-4 at mid-season.

November 4, 2013  08:43 AM ET

Two things I do not get:

1- Martin is 6'5" and 320 lbs. Why didn't he just tell anybody bugging him to knock it off or say "lets go at it , now, right here?"

2-He is NOT a rookie. This is his second year in the league.

Everybody in the NFL knows Incognito is POS. Has been since back in his college days when he was thrown off his Nebraska team.
